INTRODUCTION
• A general purpose computer has these parts:-
1. Processor:- The ‘ Brain’ that does arithmetic, responds to incoming
information and generate outgoing information and generate outgoing
information.
2. Primary Storage:- (Memory or RAM) the scratchpad that remembers
information that can be used by the processor.
3. System and Expansion Buses:- The transfer mechanism (writing plus
connectors) that connects processor to primary storage and I/O devices.

HISTORY

• The First documented computer architecture was correspondence

between Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace describing the analytical
engine when building the computer z1 in 1936, konard zuse describe in
two patent application for his future projects that machine instruction
could be stored in the same storage used for data.

DEFINITION OF COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE

DEFINITION:- In Computer Engg, Computer Architecture is a set of rules and method

that describes the functionality, organization, and implementation of computer
system. Some definitions of architecture defines it as describing the capability and
programming model of a computer but not a particular implementation.
In other definition computer architecture involves
instruction set architecture design, microarchitecture design, logic design, and
implementation.
