Objectives:

At the end of 60-minute period, the

students should be able to:
a. recall Adjectives and its function;
b. determine the correct order of adjective
in a sentence; and
c. express meaningful sentences by
following the basic rule in arranging
adjectives in a series.
Rules in Arranging
Adjectives
Rule 1. When several adjectives are used to modify a
noun, their order is determined by traditional English
usage.

Examples:
a cute little dog
a blind old man
a little blue coat
Rule 2. There are combinations of adjectives placed
before nouns where the order is not fixed. These
combinations may be placed in any order and a
comma separates the adjectives.
Examples:
a thoughtful, reticent man
a reliable, conscientious fellow
Rule 3. Sometimes the order of the
adjectives determines the meaning.
Examples:
great many books
many great books
Rule 4. When adjectives denoting position and
number are used, the position adjective comes
before the adjective denoting number.

Examples:
last ten minutes of the game
first five minutes of the period
