PERSONALITY TRAITS OF THE

PROTAGONIST IN THE MOVIE

“TAARE ZAMEEN PAR”

Organisational Behaviour
Overview

Ishaan, a student who suffers from dyslexia, cannot

seem to get anything right at his boarding school.
Soon, a new unconventional art teacher, Ram
Shankar Nikumbh, helps him discover his hidden
potential.
Protagonist
Aamir Khan plays the lead role in the movie as Ram Shankar
Nikumbh. He is a teacher who joins the school's faculty
temporarily when the art teacher goes on a visit to New Zealand.
Ram Shankar is an ideal teacher with atypical qualities. He does
not embrace the formal rigid system of education and believes
that every child has his own way of dealing things.
Ram Shankar helps a child named Ishaan Awasthi overcome
dyslexia by fighting against the odds. The odds here refer to
nobody except the child’s own self.
Personality Traits of the
Protagonist:
1. Unbiased-

Ram Shankar Nikumbh is an unbiased personality. He does not judge

people by their present capabilities but aims at making students achieve
those capabilities. He believes that every child has unique talents that are
to be identified and shaped by the teacher.
Every teacher plays a significant role in the life of his student. Since the
teacher directs his students, he needs to have a clear picture and precise
plan of action.
2. Forthcoming-

The character of the protagonist can be termed as forthcoming. In the

movie, Ishaan did not go and seek help from the teacher but it was the
other way round. Ram Shankar, all by himself, approached the kid and
helped him in all the possible ways, though the kid did not want to be
helped.
Such scenario is quite uncommon in contemporary world since people
often tend to develop themselves than develop their surroundings. Parents
and teachers are the only souls that help in the development of others.
3. Motivational-

Ram Shankar’s words are motivational to the people around him. As a

teacher, one has to be highly motivative in order to ensure that the children
are performing with their utmost efficiency.
Ram Shankar narrates different life patterns of famous personalities to the
students and explains how a timid can be encouraged and be transformed
(by his own self or a motivator) into an invincible man to face the world.
4. Influential-

The protagonist influences not only the behaviour of his students, but
also changes the biased mindset of Ishaan’s parents. Ram Shankar visits
Ishaan’s home and explains the syndrome of dyslexia to Ishaan’s parents.
Later when Ishaan’s dad comes to the school to let Ram know that the
parents are concerned about their children, Ram explains a new theory of
how parents are deceived by themselves.
This shows that the character is highly influential not only to his
subjects, but to the people around him.
5. Initiative-

Ram Nikumbh takes the initiative of guiding Ishaan personally and meets
the principal of the school to seek permissions. This shows hustling nature
of a teacher in order to educate his student.
As a guide, one of the major roles is to enhance the learning process of the
student and make sure that the learning is continuous and not discrete.
Ram Shankar has portrayed this characteristic significantly. When all other
teachers complained about the student to the principal, it was Nikumbh
who initiated change and figured out ways of making him a better person.
