Core Subject Description: Physical Education and
Health offers experiential learning for learners to
adopt an active life for fitness and lifelong health.
The knowledge, skills and understanding which
include physical and health literacy competencies
support them in accessing, synthesizing and
evaluating information; making informed decisions;
enhancing and advocating their own as well as
others’ fitness and health.
 Thiscourse on dance includes rhythmical
movement patterns; the promotion and
appreciation of Philippine folk dance,
indigenous and traditional dances as well
as other dance forms. It consists of an
array of offerings which learners can
choose from.

Class Expectations

 Respect yourself, others and our facilities.


 Come to class on time and be prepared.
 You are required to change from what you wore to school,
into PE/active clothes prescribed.
 If you cannot participate due to illness or injury, you must
bring a parent/doctor note. If the condition is chronic
(lasting greater than 2 days) a doctor’s note is required.
 Participate to the best of your ability in each and every
activity.

items are not the school’s responsibility.
Lost or stolen items should be reported
immediately to security.
 NO CELLPHONES in class.
 Personal hygiene is encouraged to
maintained at the end of each class period.

 Fitness is a universal concern. In whatever activities
and undertakings you do, your fitness should always
be taken into account if you are to perform them
effectively.
 Fitness is not only for athletes sportsmen, PE
teachers and fitness instructors but also a concern
for students, parents and other members of the
community.
 If we are to become strong productive members of
our community, we must address the very basic
requirements of such goal, the sustaining base of any
endeavour we undertake, fitness

An art form, characterized by the use of


the human body as a vehicle of human
expression.
A composition which implies
arrangements of parts into a form.

WHAT IS DANCE?

 An Art form that generally refers to movement


of the body, usually rhythmic and to music,
used as a form of expression, social interaction
or presented in a spiritual or performing
setting.

 It is a way of knowing and communicating. All


societies used dance to communicate on both
personal and cultural levels and to meet
physical and spiritual need.
Dance as Emotional Expression

 Dance is an expressive tool that can give


a person a new emotional outlet to deal
with feelings which at times are intense
or overwhelming. It is important and
healing to have positive ways to deal with
feelings and to move with energy out of
the body, instead of squelching or
repressing it.
Dance as an Artistic Expression

Dance is an exposure of human


body in its most naked form
whether one is raising their hand
or performing in ballet.

pattern merge. It is a composition that
implies arrangement of parts into
form.
Dancing

 This is a means of expressing one’s emotions


through movement disciplined by rhythm.
 It is an act of moving rhythmically and
expressively to an accompaniment.
 The word “dancing” came from an old German
word “danson” which means “to stretch.”
Essentially, all dancing is made up of
stretching and relaxing.
Phases of Dance Program

 Folk/ Ethnic Dance


 Folk/ ethnic dance is a cultural art form handed down from generation to
generation. It communicates the customs, beliefs, rituals, and occupations of the
people of a region or country.
 Folk dancing belongs to the people. It emanates from them.
 Ethnic tribes have their specific tribal art forms originated and danced by the
people of the tribe.
 Examples of ethnic dances are rural and country dances, jotas, mazurkas,
pandanggos, among others with foreign influence.
 Examples of ethnic dances are the dances of the mountain peoples of the
cordilleras, dances of the ethnic groups in the Cagayan Valley Region, and the
ethnic dances in the Mindanao Regions, among others.
 Contemporary dance is a style of
expressive dance that combines
elements of several dance genres
including modern, jazz, lyrical and
classical ballet. Contemporary dancers
strive to connect the mind and the
body through fluid dance movements.
 Contemporary dance stresses versatility
and improvisation, unlike the strict,
structured nature of ballet. Contemporary
dancers focus on floor work, using gravity
to pull them down to the floor.
 This dance genre is often done in bare feet.
Contemporary dance can be performed to
many different styles of music.
 Social and Ballroom Dance
 The setting of the social and ballroom dance is a social
gathering with the more formal atmosphere than the
simple and informal parties in which the recreational
dances are the usual forms. Social and ballroom
dancing are generally held in the evenings. The
participants are usually in formal attire.
 Examples of social and ballroom dances are cha-cha-
cha; foxtrot; tango; samba; rumba; quick step;
Viennese waltz; jive and pasodoble.
 CHEERDANCE, sometimes referred to as cheerleading,
is a team physical activity using organized routines
for the purpose of motivating a sports team,
entertaining an audience, or competition.
 Cheer dance performances usually take a few minutes
and is always done by multiple performers, with
formal cheer dance competitions outlining various
requirements such as minimum and maximum number
of performers and a time limit.
 Hip-hop dance refers to street
dance styles primarily performed tohip-
hop music or that have evolved as part
of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range
of styles primarily breaking, locking, and
popping which were created in the 1970s
and made popular by dancecrews in the
United States.
