LESSON 1: THE POWERPOINT

WINDOW
Powerpoint is a presentation software
package from Microsoft.
MS Powerpoint is commonly used to create
slide shows.
RIBBON
• Located below the title bar, composed of
several tabs. Clicking each tab displays several
related command groups. In each group, there
are related command buttons. The dialog box
launcher is present at the bottom-right corner
of a group to make additional commands
available.

COMMAND BUTTONS
PARTS OF THE POWERPOINT WINDOW

• MS Office Button- located at the upper-left


corner. When clicked, a menu appears. The
menu is used to create a new file, open an
existing file, save a file, and perform many
other task.
QUICK ACCESS TOOLBAR
• Provides an easy access to commands that are
frequently used. By default, save, undo and
redo appear on the quick access toolbar.
TITLE BAR
• Located at the center-top of the PowerPoint
window. The title bar displays the name of the
currently working presentation.
RIBBON
• Consists of Menu tabs, Command groups,
Command buttons and the Dialog box
launcher.
RULERS
• Vertical and horizontal guides, used to
determine where to place an object. They are
present in the view tab.
SLIDES
• Located at the center of the window. All
objects such text, graphics, charts, etc. in the
presentation is created on the slides.
PLACEHOLDERS
• Placeholders hold the objects in the slide.
Placeholders are used to hold text, clip arts,
charts, etc. You can use the notes area to
create notes to yourself. You can refer to these
notes as you give your presentation.
NOTES AREA
• Present at the bottom of your slides. Notes
area is used to provide notes for the presenter
on the slides.
STATUS BAR
• Located at the bottom of the window. It
displays the number of the slide that is
currently displayed, the total number of slides
and the name of the design template or the
name of the background used in the
presentation.
OUTLINE TAB
• Displays the text contained in the
presentation.
SLIDES TAB
• Displays a thumbnail of all slides. The
thumbnail can be clicked to view the slide in
the Slide pane.
VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL SPLITTER

• Used to changed the size of the panes by


dragging the vertical and horizontal splitter
bars.
ZOOM
• Allows zooming in and zooming out on the
window. Zooming in makes the window larger
to focus in on an object. Zooming out makes
the window smaller to see the entire window.
COMMAND BUTTONS
• Consist of Minimize, Maximize and Close
buttons.
VIEW BUTTONS
• Located near the bottom of the screen. It is
used to change between Normal view, Slider
sorter view and Reading view.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF VIEWS IN MS
POWERPOINT
• Normal view- splits the screen into 3 major
sections. The Outline and Slide tabs, the Slide
pane and the Notes area.
• Slide sorter view- shows thumbnails of the slides
can easily be done in Slide sorter view.
• Notes page- used to edit the speaker notes as
they will look when you print them out.
• Reading view- view the presentation as a slide
show that fits within the window.
