SEPAK TAKRAW

• Takraw in Thailand, Sipa in Philippines, Sepakraga


in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, Ching Loong
in Myanmar, Rago in Indonesia and kator in Laos.

• Is a skill ball game, which requires the use of feet


and head to keep the ball in the air in a targeted
direction.
• Is almost definitely based on the Chinese game
of cufu ( a game which also mean "kick ball"
• The sport would have been brought in through
early trade and had already popular in Malaysia
and Thailand by the early 1400s.
• International play now is governed by ISTAF, The
International Sepak Takraw Federation. The
king's Cup Sepak takraw world championship is
held every year in Thailand.

EQUIPMENT
•Center Line. The Center line of 1 PI inches should be
drawn equally dividing the right and left court.
•Quarter Circles. A corner of each center line, a quarter
circle shall be drawn from the side line to the center line
with a radius of 3.0 feet measured and drawn outwards
from the edge of the 3.0 foot radius.
•The Service Circle. The service circle of 1 foot radius
shall be drawn on the left and right court, the center of
which is 8 feet from the back line of the court and 10 feet
from the side boundary. The Service Circle is measured
and drawn outward from the edge of the center of the 1
foot radius.

•Height of the Net. It should be 5 feet, 1 inch at the


center.
•Height of the Posts. ISTAF regulations call for the posts
To be 5'4". You can use the portable volleyball posts and
secure the net to the desired 5"1" height.
•Free Area. An area of 6 feet outside the court
boundaries should be free of obstacles.

FAULTS

The Serving Side During Service

 The "inside" player who is making service throws, plays about with the ball
(throwing up the ball,bumping, giving to other "inside" player etc.) after the call of
score hs been made by the referee.
 The "inside" player lifts his feet or steps on the line or crosses over or touches the
net while throwing the ball.
 The "tekong" does not kick the ball on the service throw.
 The "tekong" jmps off the ground to execute the service.

Scoring System
 When either serving side or receiving side commits fault, a point is awarded
to the opponent's side, including making next service.
 The winning point for a set is 21 points, unless the point is tied at 20-20 the
set shall be decided on a difference of 2 points, up to a ceiling of 25 points.
When the score is tied at 20-20, the referee announces "setting up to 25
points."
 The game is played in 2 sets with 2-minute rest in between.
 If each "regu" wins one set, the game shall be decided is the 3rd set called
"tiebreak" with 15 points unless the point is tied at 14-14, then the set shall
be decided on a difference ot 2 points, up to a ceiling of 17 points. When the
score is tied at 14-14, the referee announces "setting up to 17 points."
 Before the tiebreak set takes places, the referee shall toss a dice or coin, and
the side winning the toss shall have the option of "choosing service." The
change of sides takes place when one "regu" reaches 8 points.
Yellow cards = to caution player

expulsion. Red card is given if a player has
committed intentional offenses such as:
Penalties
• Persistent misconduct after receiving a caution.
• Violent misconduct (e.g. striking, kicking, spitting,
etc.)
• Using foul or abusive langage.
• Any player that is shown a red card will be sent off the
court and disciplinary action will be taken against him.
He/she will not be allowed to play in any game if
sanction has been made.

The start of play and
service
 The side that must serve first shall start the first set.
The side that wins the first set shall have the option of
"choosing service".
 The throw must be executed as soon as the referee
calls the score. If either of the "inside" players throws
the ball before the referee calls the score, it must be a
rethrown and a warning will be given to the thrower.
 During the service, as soon as the tekong kicks the ball,
all the players are allowed to move about freely in their
respective courts.
 The service is valid if the ball passes over the net,
whether it touches the net or not, and inside the
boundary of the two net tapes and boundary lines of
the opponent's court.
