PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2

– PROPOSAL DEFENSE –

Prepared by Group 3
Students Preference
towards Individual vs.
Collaborative Work in
Learning Effectively of
Grade 11 STEM in Jesus Is
Lord Colleges Foundation,
Inc.
Variables

 Independent Variable: Student's Preference

toward Individual vs. Collaborative Work

 Dependent Variable: Learning Effectively

Hypothesis of the Study

 Positive relationship between individual and

collaborative work in learning effectively.
Thus, it assumes that studying between two
preferences has affect the learning outcome
of the students.

Statement of the Problem

 General Problem:
What is the student's preference towards
Individual vs. Collaborative work in effectively
learning of Grade 11 STEM in Jesus Is Lord
Colleges Foundation Inc.
Specific Problem

 1. Demographic profile of the respondents in

terms of sex
 2. Most and least percentage preferred by
students between Individual work and
Collaborative work in learning effectively

 3. How does preference of students help in

their effective learning?
Methods and Techniques

 The research employed a Comparative Study

approach, under the category of Descriptive
Research Design which refers to describe a
phenomenon and its characteristics (Nassaji,
2015)
Respondents of the Study
 The researchers gathered the following data
in 206 respondents out of 428 students in
Grade 11 STEM, in correspondingly to Slovin’s
formula in getting the sample size in a
population with a margin error of 0.05

 Convenience and Snowball Sampling will be

applied, which under the category of non-
probability sample defined as respondents
were chosen by means of non-random
method.
Instruments of the Study

 The researchers constructed a modified test

questionnaire entitled Identifying Student’s Learning
Preferences Test, based on the work of (Meiramova &
Zhanysbayeva 2015) and (Sofroniou & Poutos 2016).

 Whereas, the test are consists of 16 questions and are

divided into two categories, first set is inclined with
collaborative work while the last set is inclined with
individual work.
Instruments of the Study

 The respondents will be guided in answering questions

with the following:

 1-Strongly Disagree

 2- Disagree

 3- Agree

 4 - Strongly Agree

Instruments of the Study

 Evaluating Learning Effectiveness of Student’s

Preferences, the respondents will be guided in answering
questions with the following:

 1- Very Much

 2- Quite a bit

 3- Some

 4 - Very Little
Data Gathering Procedure

The stated procedures below will be followed in

conducting the study in collecting the data needed.
The following procedures are as follows:

 1. The researchers will formulate questions which are

derived from the statement of the problem. It will be
seen in the questionnaires that they will handle.

 2. The researchers will construct a letter of approval

addressing in Jesus Is Lord College Foundation Inc.
The letter will elucidate a brief explanation about its
purpose and scope.
Data Gathering Procedure
 3. Then, researchers will distribute the questionnaires to
the selected Grade 11 STEM students of the Senior High
School Department. This will allow them to answer the
questionnaire without limited time.

 4. To reach the desired respondent which is 206, the

researchers will ask the respondents if they have known
available classmates with the same strand and grade
that can take the same questionnaires.

 5. Finally, the researchers will gather and after, they will

analyse all the acquired data which will establish a
result. This interpreted data will be put into numerical
data and graphs
Data Processing and Statistical
Treatment

 Mean

The statistical measure that identifies a single

value as the average of the whole given set of data
that serve as a representative to the entire
distribution ( Manikandan, 2011). The researchers will
apply it to determine the average of students who
preferred to work individually and in collaborative
work.
Data Processing and Statistical
Treatment

 Frequency

Simply count the number of times that each

variable occurs, such as the number of males and
females within the sample (Korb 2013). This will be
used as it is measures the demographic profile in
terms of sex of the respondents in the study.
Data Processing and Statistical
Treatment

 Percentage

Percentage analysis is the method to

represent raw streams of data as a percentage for
better understanding of collected data.
Percentage Analysis is applied to create a
contingency table from the frequency distribution
and represent the collected data for better
understanding (De Lima, 2018).
Data Processing and Statistical
Treatment

 Standard Deviation

The standard deviation statistic is one way to

describe the results of a set of measurements it can
provide a comprehensive understanding of the
characteristics of the data set (Salkind 2010).
Data Processing and Statistical
Treatment

 T-test of Correlated Means (Wilcoxon Test)

It is a type of inferential statistic used to

determine if there is a significant difference
between the means of two groups, which may be
related in certain features. It shows the two
informational collections and decides whether it is
originated in the same place (Adam, 2019). This will
be applied to determine the difference between
two variables in the study.
