Traditional seaside holiday

Traditional seaside holiday is a

typical british summer holiday.
The traditional seaside
can be found in many
other resorts up and
down the country. On
the Dorset Coast
Weymouth still retains
much of this
atmosphere. It is busier
than Southwold, but it
is still a family resort.
There is a clock on the
front that celebrates
the Queen's Jubilee
(Queen Victoria's that
is!). The beach has
golden sands and is
perfect for bathing
Traditional things to eat at the seaside
are candy floss and a stick of rock
sweet

Traditional family christmas dinner

Children leave a long stocking
at the end of their beds on
christmas eve, 24th december,
hoping that father christmas
will come down the chimney
during the night and bring
them small presents, fruit and
nuts. At some time on
christmas day the family will
sit down a big turkey dinner
followed by christmas
pudding. They will probably
pull a cracker. It will make a
loud crack and a coloured hat
or a small toy will fall out
Later in the afternoon they
may watch the queen’s speech
on the television and enjoy a
piece of christmas cake or eat
a hot mince pie 26th december

New year’s day

New Year's Day is a public

holiday in the United Kingdom
on January 1 each year. It marks
the start of the New Year in the
Gregorian calendar. For many
people have a quiet day on
January 1, which marks the end
of the Christmas break before
they return to work.

At midnight, as the New Year begins, the

chimes of Big Ben are broadcast to mark the
start of the New Year.
Many people hold parties at home or
go out to pubs or night clubs. These
parties often continue into the early
hours of the morning. Hence, for
many people, New Year's Day is time
for recovering from the excesses of the
night before.

For others, it is the last day of the

Christmas holiday before they return to
work. Some take the opportunity to carry
out home improvements or to go for a
walk in the country. In many places
around the United Kingdom's coast,
groups of people dress up in fancy
costumes and run into the cold sea.
