What is a Flat Type wall
Panel ?
A single piece of
material, usually flat and cut
into a rectangular shape ,
serves as the visible and
exposed covering for a wall.
- a monitor support
structure custom-built of
extruded aluminum or steel
that can be built to hold any
number and size of flat
panels.
- a decorative wall panels that provides insulation
and sound proofing .

- made by combined materials with uniformity of

appearance, along with some measure of
durability and is replaceable.

- a flat wall panels has no size limit, though 24

inches by 8 feet is suggested as the maximum size
for reference and for easy transportation.
What is the functions of FLAT TYPE WALL PANELS
to the industry?
1. It serves as a decoration to the
building most especially in the
modern times.

2. It insulates the structure

3. Soundproof

4. Uniform in appearance,
making the structure
aesthetically proportion and
good to the eye.

5. Durable
6. Replaceable

7. Achieves air barrier and continuous

insulation up to R-24 ( contingent on
panel thickness)

8. Concealed fasteners that

produces clean, aesthetic and
virtually eliminate thermal bridging.

9. Weather- thight (ie tongue and

groove)

10. Approved fire and wind resistant.

11. Install vertically or horizontally
onto open structural steel.

12. Versatile pieces that can be used

as architectural, structural, or
combination elements.

13. If insulated, flat wall panels can be

designed as composite or non-
composite, load-bearing or non-load
bearing.

14. can be cast or blockout for

electrical conduits, HVAC ductwork,
windows, and entrance and egress
openings.
ADVANTAGES OF
FLAT WALL PANEL

• Reduce construction cost

• application of paints or other
finishing materials are not
required.
• companies introduced
environment-friendly systems
• quality product
• energy cost saving
• speed of construction
• durable
• property protection
other advantages:

• flexible design
• aesthetically versatile exteriors
• interior surface
• economical
• expedited construction schedule
• green construction
• high quality
• moisture resistant and acoustical
control
• load-bearing and nonload-bearing
• fire resistant
• blast resistant
DISADVANTAGES OF
FLAT TYPE WALL
PANEL
• Very heavy members
• very small margins of errors
• connection maybe difficult
• somewhat limited building
design flexibility
• need for repetition of forms
will affect building design
• joints between panels are
often expensive and
complicated
• skilled workmanship is
required in the application of
the panel on the site.
• cranes are required to lift
panels.
IDEAL USES

• Virtually any commercial or industrial building,

from architectural application to cold-storage
facilities.

• metal wall panel combines the aesthetic of a flat

wall panel and high insulation values of a
urethane core.
• insulated metal wall panels are well suited for
exterior wall and interior partition applications.
The lightly corrugated profile on both faces of
the panel ensures symmetry from outside the
building to inside, and from room to room in
partition applications.

• provides bold vertical lines complementary to

almost any commercial or industrial building.

HOW THE PANEL
BEING
TRANSPORTED
AND ERECTED

1. Set up the form

2. Pour the concrete after setting
up the form
3. When the poured concrete
dries or harden then that is the
time to LIFT it from the form.
4. Rotate vertically
5. Store in Yard or to any other
open spaces but limit it in storing
into an unsettled spaces, e.g
dump site, on to any open
spaces that have material-
destroying matter.
6. Transport to the site
• check for site accessibility for
the delivery of precast
elements.
• check delivery checklist for
correct type, quantity and
panel identification.
7. Lift from the Truck
• check for adequate crane
capacity and working
clearance for hoisting of
precast concrete elements.
8. In discharging from the truck, rotate
it vertically

• check for adequate crane

capacity and working clearance for
hoisting of precast concrete
elements.
• measure the delivered precast
• conduct visual inspection
• check the locations and condition
before hoisting
9. Erect it to the building. (in
consideration of high rise they
transport or in by placing the
concrete to the designated space
it is usually carried by A CRANE.

MATERIALS USED IN
CREATING A FLAT TYPE
WALL PANEL

. Materials vary to manufacturing

companies.

2. Portland cement ( Type I or III ),

admixtures and aggregates in
accordance with applicable ASTM
standards.

3. water: potable or free from foreign

materials in amounts harmful to
concrete and embedded steel.
4. Reinforcing steel and welded studs: Bars, wires and structural steel shapes in
accordance with applicable ASTM standards.
- studs , in accordance with AWS D1.1
- anchor and inserts in accordance with ASTM, AWS and MNL standards.

4. Prestressing Strand: uncoated, 7-wire, low lax strand: ASTM A 416 (including
supplement) - Grade 250 k or 270 k.

5. extruded or expanded insulation

6. Caulking: two part polyurethane. ASTM C920-8T, Type M, Grade N.5, class 25.

7. Grout: unless otherwise specified, grout shall be a mixture of not less than one part
portland cement for three parts fine sand. minimum 28-days, compressive strenght- 3000 psi.

8. Hard aggregated fiber reinforced polymer coating.

SAMPLE STRUCTURES
1. STEPPING STONE PRESCHOOL
• architect John J. Di Benedetto
Associates Architects Inc

• the first building to greet parents and

students when they arrive at Ancillae
Assumpta Academy in Wyncote,
Pennsylvania, Stepping Stones Preschool is
a playful and educational example of
architecture and construction. CastleTop
(HCT160) 0.032-inch aluminum wall panels
from ATAS International were used in a
Rawhide color (2,120 sq. ft.) and Regal Blue
color (159 sq. ft.) to create a “Dr. Seuss-like
appearance” on the sloped walls.
2. METAL WORKS
• Architect Enrique Norten

• Rutgers Business School's new 100 Rock building

both a landmark and a gateway. And who could
argue. The $85 million structure, located on Rutgers
University - New Brunswick's Livingston campus in
Piscataway, NJ, has an iconic presence and was
designed in such a way as to straddle the campus'
main entry road.

• Most who come and go will pass directly beneath it.

Lending to the unique building's visual interest is a
multi-faceted rainscreen metal cladding. All of the
metal systems, including the solid and perforated
aluminum plate panels needed to support the metal
wall design intent, were fabricated by Metalwërks®, a
division of Metal Sales & Service, Kennett Square,
PA.
