What is SAP?

• SAP was started in 1972 by five former IBM employees in

Mannheim, Germany. SAP AG became the company's official name
after the 2005 annual general meeting

What is SAP R/3?

• SAP is an R/3 (Real-Tier Architecture 3) system that allows real

time management and tracking of sales, productions, finance,
accounting and human resources in an enterprise.
• There are following two different views of R/3 System:
• Development View
• Hardware View

Two-tier R/3 System configurations are usually implemented using special

presentation servers that are responsible solely for formatting the graphical interface.
Many R/3 System users use PCs with Microsoft Windows -installed, for example, as
presentation servers.

Benefits of SAP

• The original SAP idea was to provide customers with the

ability to interact with a common corporate database for a
comprehensive range of applications.

• SAP maintains a single information system for the enterprise

and all the applications access common data.

• Applications interact with each other when real business

events occur. For example, when events in sales and
productions occur, accounting is done automatically. Sales
can see when the production can be delivered, etc., thus the
whole SAP system is designed to work in real time.

preparation
Go-live means to turn on the SAP system for the end-
users and to obtain feedback on the solution and to
monitor the solution.
Data Migration or Cutover
Strategies & Plans This is phase where all configurations/customizations
are transported to live production operation and
business starts all its activities in the SAP R/3.

During this phase, all the problems/issues related to

hardware, network, operating system, database,
training, and application system are addressed by the
End User Training project team members and they help the end users in
achieving their day to day task/assignments.

Organizational Units

• The Client is the highest level in the mySAP ERP system hierarchy.

• Company Code (for external purposes) A company code represents an

independent balancing/legal accounting entity. An example would be a
company with independent accounts within a corporate group. Financial
statements required by law can be created at company code level.
Therefore, a company code is the minimum structure necessary in mySAP
ERP Financials. In an international business, operations are often scattered
across numerous countries. Since most government and tax authorities
require the registration of a legal entity for every company, a separate
company code is usually created per country.
