INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
• Discrimination research papers analyze
the glass ceiling and many other forms
of discrimination in the workplace and
society.Discrimination research papers
show that discrimination is a double
edged sword. In a research paper on
discrimination, you want to be sure to
show both sides of the issue and how
each camp sees the problem.
• Discrimination is a viable method of
making decisions in all walks of life,
we discriminate between things
every day. However, our society has
determined that some types of
discrimination are harmful and
unjust.Though few would stand up
and say that this type of
discrimination is wrong or hurtful to
food items, many do so when it is
This chapter examines the ways in which
discrimination continues to operate by
asking four basic questions:

1. What is discrimination?
2. How can we identify discrimination when
it takes place?
3. What causes discrimination?
4. How can we reduce the incidence of
discrimination?

What is Discrimination?
• What is discrimination?Everywhere we
look, we see differences in wealth,
power, and status. Some groups have
higher status and greater privilege than
others. This inequality in the system is
what we call social stratification. In this
unequal social system, there is often
unfair treatment directed against
certain individuals or social groups.
• This is referred to as discrimination.
Discrimination can be based on many
different characteristics—age, gender,
weight, ethnicity, religion, or even
politics. For example, prejudice and
discrimination based on race is called
racism. Oftentimes, gender prejudice or
discrimination is referred to as sexism.
Discrimination is often the outcome of
prejudice—a pre-formed negative
judgment or attitude.Prejudice leads
people to view certain individuals or
Common Types of DiscriminationAmong
the definitions listed in Merriam-Webster’s
1995 Collegiate Dictionary for the noun
discrimination is prejudiced or prejudicial
outlook, action, or treatment. Considering
the complexity and diversity of human
society, it comes as no surprise to discover
many different forms of discrimination.
What follows is a look at three well-known
cases of ill-natured social discrimination
followed by a cure suggestion for each.

1.)DESCRIMINATION BASED ON.
GENDER
• Historically, women have been
almost universally denied access to
the benefits of society. In these
contexts, women have been treated
as possessions. As such, women have
been unable to achieve individuality.
Instead, they have been forced to
become attachments to their parents

• The result of these expectations has
been to demonstrate wide social
disapproval of women who do not
meet them. Denial of access to
women supports traditional male
roles. Though women have
demonstrated equal and superior
ability to perform in all of the
traditionally male environments, their

• This has been at the forefront of
discrimination battles in American law
and society for decades, if not longer.
The conflict is not confined to
discrimination against minorities such
as African Americans or Hispanics, but
also involves Caucasian charges of
reverse discrimination in heated topics
such as Affirmative Action.
Lately, persons of Arabic decent have
become victims of discrimination as a
result of the on-going terrorist wars.

With each new generation of
American youth, the old generation
imparts some of their prejudiced
views. Schools need to work harder at
exposing children of all races to the
other races in America.To an extent,
the entertainment industry musttake
on a more responsible role in not
stereotyping whites, blacks, and other
When the fear of the other race
departs, anger and hate leave with it
and understanding sets in. At the same
time, laws need to enforce a zero
tolerance code for all forms of racial
discrimination.
3.)DESCRIMINATION BASED ON
AGE
Age discrimination often gets swept
under the rug in the face of the
perceived larger issues of race and
gender discrimination. For example,
should a high school hire a twenty-
two year old female over a sixty year
old man with the same qualifications
for the same teaching position?
Though the sixty-year-old undoubtedly
carries a wealth of experience and
maturity, the odds are that in the
majority of cases, the twenty-two year
old would be hired.
*HOW TO CURE*
The cure for this problem is simple; if
the person can satisfactorily perform
all aspects of a given job, that person
should be equally considered for
employment as any other applicant
regardless of gender. Laws should be
passed to enforce this code of
impartiality. At the same time,
privately funded organizations should
retain the right to run their affairs as
they see fit.
METHODOLOGY
How did we do this?
Doing this research has not been easy
for us. Though we may not have done
it perfectly but at least we knew what
to do.First thing we did was to find
out more about 'Discrimination'.Then
we searched some studies and
surveys about it.Then we came up
with this presentation.
We also put some pictures to
make it more understandable and
interesting.After knowing more,
We conducted a meeting and
constructed an evaluation on how
we understood the topic and
gathered opinions from each and
one of us.With us working
together,the research ended up
Here's an example of Employment
Discrimination:
An example we notice in everyday life
is salary differences! There are often
obvious salary differences among
across genders and race groups. In the
workplace, there is sometimes wage
discrimination. An example of gender
wage discrimination is when an
employer pays a woman less than a
man for the same work.
Normally, jobs with higher
occupational prestige or status pay
more. These types of jobs are often
viewed as those that require higher
skills and qualifications or higher-
level jobs.women’s average incomes
are lower than men’s in nearly all job
categories. However, the gender gap
is further strengthened by an ethnic
salary gap.
The federal poverty level for a
family of four in 2013 was $453 per
week. Hispanic women fall below
that line in several occupational
categories!More Hispanic women
are in “low status” or low-earning
jobs, while almost 50% of White
women have “high status”
occupations.What about when
One team was African American, and
one was White. The teams had
identical resumes, except for one
difference—on each team, one of the
men said that they had served 18
months in jail for drug possession.
Guess what the results were? Not
surprisingly, men without a prison
record were 2 to 3 times more likely
to receive a callback from the job.
How to Deal with 'Discrimination'
Any social groups are marginalized,
but it does not mean that they stay at
the edge of society. These groups and
individuals are constantly fighting for
their rights, for the power to make
positive changes for their groups.
There are many examples of minority
movements and stories of success.For
example, the gender equality
movement has recently had a lot of

We Realized that...
Discriminating is abusing in every way
that we can look at it.Judging
someone in his or her physical
appearance,gender,age,hometown or
anything else without even knowing
the story was never right. Everyone
has the right to chose whom are they
gonna be,what they wanna do.But we
have no right to judge each other.
We all have different
agendas,different beliefs and
different personalities. We
should learn to accept each and
one of us without investigating
how a person moves, speaks,
and do things.
