Yaptangco What is a Conclusion? • According to Webster Dictionary- reasoned judgement based on evidence.
• is the final stage of the research output.
Yang and Allison’s (2003) Conclusions Model MOVES STEPS Move 1- Summarizing the study Move 2- Evaluating the 1. Indicating study significance/advantage 2. Indicating limitations 3. Evaluating methodology
Move 3- Deductions from 1. Recommending further
the research study A move is defined by Nwogu (1997) as “a text segment made up of a bundle of linguistic features which gives the segment a uniform orientation and signal the content of discourse in it. In other words the said segment has to achieve the communicative purpose of a particular move or step. On the other hand, a step “ spells out more specifically the rhetorical means of realizing the function of a move” (Nwogu, 1997. p.114).This means to say that if a step is achieved under a particular move; therefore the communicative purpose of the move has also been achieved. YANG AND ALLISON’S CONCLUSION MODEL MOVE 1- SUMMARIZING THE STUDY • objectives of the study •enumerate the findings and their implications MOVE 2-EVALUATING THE STUDY Step 1- Indicate significance /advantage Step 2- Limitation of the study Step 3- Evaluating the methodology MOVE 3-DEDUCTIONS FROM THE RESEARCH Step 1-Recommending further study The researcher recommends to further establish the findings the current study and for future research direction. Yang and Allison’s (2003) Conclusions Model MOVES STEPS Move 1- Summarizing the study Move 2- Evaluating the 1. Indicating study significance/advantage 2. Indicating limitations 3. Evaluating methodology
Move 3- Deductions from 1. Recommending further
the research study Reminders Yang and Allison’s (2003) model is not a linear framework. Thus, a researcher may begin achieving any of the moves of his /her choice. Likewise, a researcher is not required to achieve all the moves as long as majority of the moves and steps are realized. Policy Recommendations Specifically stating what should be done, the steps required to implement the policy, and the resources needed; Discussion of the benefits to the organization and what problems would be corrected or avoided; Discussion of the feasibility of the proposed policy; Directions: Write a research conclusion following Yang and Allison’s (2003) Framework. Indicate the moves and steps you’ve used.
• Assign a reader to present your research conclusion.
