Introduction
• Nehru Place, located on a site of 96 acres was one of the first
district centres built in the mid seventies as per the Delhi Master
Plan 1961.
• Located on the corner of the Outer Ring Road and Lala Lajpat Rai
Marg across from Kalkaji, Nehru Place is easily accessible from
most areas of South Delhi
• Nehru Place is known as the ‘Electronics Hub of Delhi’ and
focuses more on retailing Electronics, Appliances, Computers,
Laptops and accessories, etc.
• The master plan for the district centre prepared by the planning
department of the DDA, was developed around a number of
well defined square plazas
• The central space was continuous and uninterrupted, free of
vehicular traffic. The overall concept was simple and direct, and
despite poor maintenance this still remains an urban space of
some significance. A space that now urgently calls for
improvement and upgrading.

Physical
Infrastructure
• A key issue related to the sustainable
development of Delhi, and a minimum
quality and standard of living pertains to
the availability of, and accessibility to basic
infrastructure facilities viz. water, power,
sewerage, drainage and solid waste
management.
• The rapid and almost uncontrolled growth
of population has put these facilities under
severe pressure, and there are significant
deficiencies.
Delhi- Ridge & the River

• Delhi’s storm water drains from the western ridge

areas to the river situated in the east. There are 19
major drain outfalls into the River Yamuna.

Okhla Landfill despite the site was declared
exhausted in 2010.
• After reaching a height of 55 meters, thrice the

decommissioned in 2018.
• The civic agency now aims to complete the
remediation of the Okhla landfill within one-and-
a-half years to convert it into a green cover.
