SOLAR TREE

INTRODUCTION
Now a days with the growing population and energy demand
we should take a renewable option of energy source and also we
should keep in mind that energy should not cause pollution and
other natural hazards.
India is a highly populated country, so we should
take the advantage of such an energy which requires a very less
space to produce energy efficiently, In this case solar tree could be
the best one for us .
What is a solar energy………
 Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun.
 It is an important source of renewable energy.
 The solar energy technology using such as solar heating,
photovoltaic cells, solar thermal energy, etc.
WHAT IS SOLAR TREE
A solar tree is a decorative means of producing solar energy and also
electricity. It uses multiple no of solar panels which forms the shape
of a tree. The panels are arranged in a tree fashion in a tall
tower/pole.

TREE stands for

T=TREE GENERATING
R=RENEWABLE
E=ENERGY and
E=ELECTRICITY
WHY WE CALLED IT AS SOLAR TREE
 Tree can produce their own food material by the process called
PHOTOSYNTHESIS.
 Leaves are producing food materials for human beings.
 Likewise in solar tree solar plates are producing energy for the
society.
Working technique of a solar tree
 SPIRALLING PHYLLATAXY is a technique used in
designing of solar tree.
 Phyllataxy is a botanical word, in which phyllon means
"leaf" and taxis means "arrangement”.
 Phyllataxy is the arrangement of leaves on a plant stem.
 It provides the way to help the lower panels from the
shadow of upper ones, so that it can track maximum
power from sun.
 This technology is used to improve the efficiency of the
plant .
COMPONENTS OF SOLAR TREE

The solar tree consists of mainly three parts

to design.
 Solar panels

 Long tower

 Batteries
How Solar Panels Work ?
 When photons hit a solar cell, they knock electrons loose from
their atoms. If conductors are attached to the positive and
negative sides of a cell, it forms an electrical circuit. When
electrons flow through such a circuit , they generate electricity.
 Photovoltaic cell converts sunlight into electric energy and this
effect is known as photovoltaic effect.
How Solar Panels Made of ?
 Solar panels are made of silicon, like semiconductors.
They are constructed with a positive layer and a
negative layer, which together create an electric field,
just like in a battery.
Long Tower:
 The long tower is used for connecting solar panels and
wires which is used for transforming the power from
solar panels to battery.
 The material used for tower is Steel.
Batteries:
 Battery is a collection two or
more chemical cell.
 Which is used for store the
energy from the solar
panels.
 Generally Li-ion, Lead acid,
NiCad batteries are used to
store the electrical energy.
Design of a solar tree
•Designed a solar tree using an array of
solar panels of solar cells as leaves.
•The solar cells on the tree were able to
store enough electricity .
• We planned to design green stems
constructed of steel pipes supporting a
light bulb in which solar cells are
connected.
• In place of branches we use solar panel
which has to produce voltage.
•Battery is hidden at the ground base
which is closed with proper material.
• The branch of the solar tree was
decorated with LED lights at the tip.
Ross Lovegrove's Solar Tree:
 It was invented in 2012 in
London.
 Ross Lovegrove’s original design
consist of steel pipes having
length of 5.5 m supporting for a
panels.
 which consists of 38 solar cells,
each with 38 watt capacity,
connected to a hidden 12V
battery.
 In 2007 Lovegrove was
awarded the ecology prize for
his work with the solar tree.
CSIR's Solar Power Tree:
 In 2016, CSIR(Central
Mechanical Engineering
Research Institute), Durgapur,
West Bengal, India invented
the solar tree.
 The developed solar tree is
capable of generating the
electricity in tune of 3-7 KWH
with a bare footprint of 2x2
sqft area.
Advantages
 Ecologically friendly
 Low maintenance
 High efficiency
 Decreased electrical bill
 People can save money
 Land requirement is very less
Disadvantages
 Operating and maintenance cost is high
 May cause hazards to the birds and insects
 Hazards to eyesight from solar reflectors
Applications
 Street lights

 House supply

 Industrial power supply

........
 Charging solts for E
Vehicles

 Mobile charging
Conclusion
 To fulfils the increasing energy demand
the people.
 Saving of land, this project is very
successful one.
 This can provide electricity without any
power cut problem.
