• Daisy was called “ First Lady of the
Philippine Theatre”
• Some of the productions she
significantly became part of where
Othello, Macbeth in Black, Tatarin,
Portrait of the Artist as Filipino, Diego
Silang, Walang sugat, etc.
• She also popularized the Philippine
theatre and Dramatic arts by founding
the Baranggay Theatre Guild with her
husband, Lamberto Avellana.
• They utilized the radio and television
to make theatre and dramatic arts are
known to the Filipinos.
• He was an outstanding stage
director, poet, thespian and
playwright known for his
numerous remarkable
productions and notable
scripts.
• Some of his works include; film
scripts for now and forever,
gamitin mo ako, and Milagros,
SARSWELA like Ang Mestiza,
Ana Maria and KOMEDYA like
Orosman and Zafira.
• He became the administrator of
the Ateneo Experimental
Theatre .
• He later on, handledthe Teatro
Pilipino where he revived the
Sarswela and other traditional
Filipino drama and introduced
contemporary western drama.
• He was also National Artist for
Literature aside from theatre.
• Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero, being a
theatre teacher and artist, has
mentored and trained many
performing artist for 35 years.
• He also introduced and
popularized Philippine Theatre
to different parts of the country
by establishing the UP Mobile
Theatre,
• The UP mobile theatre has
delivered thousands of
performances for 19 long years
to many campuses in the
Philippines.
• His major works include
wanted; A Chaperon,
Condemned, Perhaps, In Unity,
Three rats, The Forsaken
House, Frustrations.
• Honorata “Atang” dela Rama
started her theatrical carrer in
an early age.
• At the age of seven, she has
already been a part of different
Spanish sazuelas.
• She hailed as the Queen of
Kundiman.
• She performed kundiman and
Filipino song for indigenous
communities all over the
country.
• The sarsuelas she became part
of are dalagang Bukid, mas
cota, Pangarap ni Rosa. The
song she popularized are
Pakiusap, Ay Kalisud, Madaling
araw, and Kung iibig ka.
• She wrote Puri at bahay, Anak
ni Eba, and Aking Ina.
• Salvador Bernal was an
exceptional Theatre designer
who designed hundreds of
theatre productions of four
decades.
• The superior quality of his
designs made him
incomparable to other
designers.
• He used local materials in
producing creative and unique
sets and costumes.
• He was a professor at the
University of the Philippines
Diliman and Ateneo De Manila
University where he shared his
competencies to the aspiring
young designers.
• He also established the PATDAT
(Philippine Association of
Theatre Designers and
Technicians) in 1995 to
promote theatre design.
• Morover, he internationally
introduced the Philippine
Theatre design through the
Philippine Center of OISTAT
(Organiztion International des
Scenographers, Technicians et
Architectes du Theatre).
• Hailed as the Titan of the
Philippine Theatre, he took the
lead inpromoting “legitimate
theatre” in the country
• He was a Top-calibre
playwright, theatre artist, and
director who took up degrees in
and outside the country to
master theatre arts and later on
share his learnings and
competencies to the younger
Filipino generation.
• He started his education and
career at the University of the
Philippines where he studied
education and became the head
of the UP Dramatic Club.
• His journey continued as he
entered different universities in
the United States like America
University, Yale University and
New York Univesity.
• He became the dean of the
Philippine Normal College
where he founded the Arena
Theatre in 1953.
• It served the grassroots and
promoted drama to the masses
through school-community
theatres.
• Also Montano developed
graduate programs for thatre
arts in th PNC, which produced
equally talented artist like
national Artist Lino Brocka and
Rolando Tinio
