INTRODUCTION TO

PHILOSOPHY OF HUMAN
PERSON

CORE SUBJECT DESCRIPTION:

An initiation to the activity and process


of philosophical reflection as a search for a
synoptic vision of life. Topics to be discussed
include the human experiences of embodiment,
being in the world with others and the
environment, freedom, inter subjectivity, sociality,
being unto death.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, the student should be
able to:
1. Reflect on their daily experiences from a
holistic point of view
2. Acquire Critical and Analytical Thinking skills
3. Apply their critical and analytical thinking skills
to the affairs of daily life
4. Become truthful, environment-friendly and
service-oriented

5. Actively committed to the development of a


more humane society

6. Articulate their own philosophy of life


Over-all Standard for Grade 12: The learner should be able to demonstrate a
capacity for a critical and analytical reflection from the perspective of a holistic and
profound vision of life.

First Grading Period: The meaning and method of doing philosophy in relation to the
human person as an embodied being in the world and the environment

Standard Content: The student should be able to show an understanding of the


activity of doing philosophy of the human person as an embodied being in the world
and the environment

Foundational Concept: Understanding the meaning and process of doing philosophy


of the human person as an embodied being in the world and the environment as a
means towards a holistic understanding of life.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
a. Major Exams – In this class, only midterm and final exams will be
administered.
b. Quizzes (short & group quiz bowl)/ Assignments
c. Oral Report (Individual or Group)/ Oral Defense
d. Reflection Paper (Individual) – Minimum of 2 pages and maximum of
5 pages, short sized bond paper and font type Cambria, size 12,
double-spaced. Reflection paper is not simply a summary paper but it
describes your reactions and analysis to all the readings and
experiences in this course. Include in the reflection paper about the
importance of studying Introduction to Philosophy of Human Person in
the present issues and challenges faced as an individual.
(Note: Submissions of academic papers
and assignments beyond the deadlines
will not be entertained/ accepted/
approved.)
GRADING REQUIREMENTS:

WRITTEN-20%
(quizzes, quarter test, chapter test and monthly exam)

PERFORMANCE-50%
(assignments, reflection paper, portfolio, group activity and oral recitation)

QUARTERLY EXAM- 30%


(Midterm and Final Exam)
CLASSROOM POLICIES:
• Attendance - It is your responsibility to come to class on our schedule
and on time. Attendance will be checked regularly. A student who
has incurred 11 hours of absences shall be dropped from the roll and
given a failing grade.

 Make-up Exam/Quizzes – I do not give make-up
exams/quizzes EXCEPT for serious illness or death in the
family.

 Academic Integrity – You are expected to maintain


academic integrity at all times. Avoid cheating during
quizzes and assignments. Plagiarism would not be tolerated
as well. In every academic paper you submit, make sure
that you cite properly the authors/ institutions of your
references. Claiming something as your own when you
actually copied it from someone is a clear violation.
ASSIGNMENT

1. Why is it important to understand the nature of


philosophy? Explain and elaborate
2. It is possible for a discipline to develop and
flourish without philosophy ? Why or why not ?
3. Give the characteristics of philosophic questions
4. What makes a philosopher different from other
scientists ?
