ALGEBRA
 Is one of the broad parts of mathematics, together
with number theory, geometry and analysis.
 You purchased 10 items from a shopping plaza, and now
you need plastic bags to carry them home. If each bag can
hold only 3 items, how many plastic bags you will need to
accommodate 10 items?
 x = Number of items purchased = 10
 y = Capacity of 1 bag = 3
 Hence,

10/3 = 3.333bags ≈ 4 bags
 So, we need 4 shopping bags to put 10 items.
Statistics
 The practice or science of collecting and analysing
numerical data in large quantities, especially for the
purpose of inferring proportions in a whole from those in a
representative sample.
 MEAN-The average daily expenditure in a month of a
family gives the concept of mean.
 MODE-A shopkeeper keeps more stock of a particular type
of shoe which has more sale .Here the concept of mode.
 MEDIAN-If 15 people of different heights are standing
height-wise, then the middle man height is the median
height.

 A graph is a collection of points and lines.
 A Line graph.-Line graphs are used to track changes
over short and long periods of time
 A Pie Chart.-Pie charts are best to use when you are
trying to compare parts of a whole
 A Bar Graph.-Bar graphs are used to compare things
between different groups or to track changes over
time.
 An Area Graph.-They can be used to track changes
over time for one or more groups.
Geometry
 Geometry is a branch of mathematics concerned
with questions of shape, size, relative position of
figures, and the properties of space.
 Geometry is one of the classical disciplines of math
 Geometry is everywhere .
 It includes all the angles ,shapes ,lines , line segments
and curves
Maths in Nature
 The Fibonacci sequence starts like this: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5,
8, 13, 21, 34, 55 and so on forever. Each number is the
sum of the two numbers that precede.
 If you construct a series of squares with lengths equal
to the fibonacci numbers(1,1,2,3,5,etc) and trace a line
through the diagonals of each square,it forms a
fibonacci spiral.
 The ratio of consecutive numbers in the fibonacci
sequence approaches a number known as the golden
ratio(=1.618033989).
Trigonometry
 Trigonometry (from Greek trigōnon, "triangle" and
metron, "measure") is a branch of mathematics that
studies relationships involving lengths and angles of
triangles.
 It is a study of relationships in mathematics involving
lengths, heights and angles of different triangles
 Trigonometry spreads its applications into various
fields such as architects, surveyors, astronauts,
physicists, engineers and even crime scene
investigators.

journal which publishes original research in solid mechanics
and materials science.
Differential Calculus
 Differential calculus is a subfield of calculus
concerned with the study of the rates at which
quantities change. It is one of the two traditional
divisions of calculus.
 The derivative of a function at a chosen input value
describes the rate of change of the function near that
input value.
 For a real-valued function of a single real variable, the
derivative of a function at a point generally determines
the best linear approximation to the function at that
point.
APPLICATIONS
 Differentiation has applications to nearly all quantitative
disciplines.
 In physics, the derivative of the displacement of a moving
body with respect to time is the velocity of the body, and
the derivative of velocity with respect to time is
acceleration.
 The derivative of the momentum of a body with respect
to time equals the force applied to the body; rearranging
this derivative statement leads to the famous F = ma
equation associated with Newton's second law of motion.
 Derivatives are frequently used to find the maxima and
minima of a function
INTEGRAL CALCULUS
 Integration is one of the two main operations
of calculus, with its inverse operation, differentiation,
being the other. Given a function f of
a real variable x and an interval [a, b] of the real line,
the definite integral
 It is defined informally as the signed area of the region
in the xy-plane that is bounded by the graph of f,
the x-axis and the vertical lines x = a and x = b. The
area above the x-axis adds to the total and that below
the x-axis subtracts from the total.
Applications
 Your phone is running because of some Calculus,
 Your fan is running because of AC which is a form of
Calculus,
 Air conditioners work on the heat flow principles
which involve Calculus,
 Your bike’s engine is working on the principles of
conversion of energy from chemical to heat to
mechanical which needed a way lot more Calculus
than you imagined,
 You travel in planes which are created on the
principles of Aerodynamics whose key concept would
again be Calculus,
Complex in real life
 An imaginary number is a number that, when squared, has
a negative result. Essentially, an imaginary number is the
square root of a negative number and does not have a
tangible value.
 Imaginary numbers are particularly applicable in
electricity, specifically alternating current (AC) electronics.
AC electricity changes between positive and negative in a
sine wave. Combining AC currents can be very difficult
because they may not match properly on the waves. Using
imaginary currents and real numbers helps those working
with AC electricity do the calculations and avoid
electrocution.
