PROCESS IMPLEMENTATION OF

BARCODE SYSTEM

CREDITS:
ABHISHEK GAUTAM
BARCODE
Optical machine-readable representation of
data.
Extremely versatile- Can be used for any kind
of data collection.
Faster and more accurate record of
information.
INWARD MODULE

When Item code is entered in Inward module, style,

classification and color are automatically displayed as
this module is linked with ‘database’ module.
In this module, details like warehouse (RAL or Fabric
Local), Reference Number, Piece Number and Roll
Number are entered manually.

BARCODE PRINT MODULE

By going to online barcode generator

‘www.serialio.com’ and typing the specific code in
the given box, unique barcode is generated.
Paste the unique barcodes in ‘Barcode Print’ module
and take the printout of the same on 4”X2” sticker
through Barcode printer.
The sticker is pasted on the reverse side of the piece
card at the time of ledger entry (bale opening).
It contains all the information that the tag and piece
card contains. Thus, if the tag or piece card gets
misplaced, then the information about the roll can be
tracked by scanning the bar code through scanner.
ACTUAL ENTRY MODULE

After inspection, when the piece card is updated,

remaining details about the roll are entered in ‘Actual
Entry’ module of barcode system. These details are:
Actual Quantity/Actual Meter
Shade
Width
Location (Not present in piece card)

ISSUE MODULE
‘Issue’ module of Barcode System is connected to
‘Inward’ module.
When a roll, partially or fully, is issued to cutting
section or sampling section or any other unit (SSAL-I
or DMS or any other), then the information about
the issued quantity is entered in Issue module, which
in turn automatically alters the details in all modules.
The ‘Issue’ module can also be used as width report
as it contains all the necessary information required.

BIN-CARD
Barcode system has its separate bin-card which
contains all the necessary details about the roll
eliminating the need to look up in ‘Stage’ for
information. Thus, it is better than the manual bin
card.

ADVANTAGES OF BARCODE SYSTEM

Time saving.
Rolls’ location can be easily tracked.
Elimination of manual tag entry.
Print of ‘Issue’ module can be used as Width report.
All necessary details about the roll easily available.
Tallying physical stock with Stage stock is easier.
Can used to generate stock report.

STOCK REPORT.jpg
Helps in audits.
Fabric reconciliation is possible.
Eliminates the possibility of human error.
Improves Inventory control.
Data obtained through barcodes is available
rapidly- Since the information is scanned
directly into the central computer, it is ready
almost instantaneously.
CHALLENGES
Requires lot of time in complete implementation.
Lack of coordination from fabric section
operators.
For full implementation, it requires details of
every material present in the fabric warehouse.
