WHAT
IS
COMMUNICATION?
COMMUNICATION
Derived from the Latin word
communicare, meaning sharing
of information or intelligence
Process of sharing and conveying
messages from one person to
another within and across
channels, media, and cultures
(McCornack, 2014)
COMMUNICATION
Can be:
Face-to-face interaction
Phone conversation
Group discussion
Meeting or interview
Class recitation
NATURE OF
COMMUNICATION
1. Communication is a process.
2. Communication occurs between two
or more people.
3. Communication can be expressed
through written or spoken words,
actions (nonverbal), or both spoken
words and nonverbal actions at the
same time.

ETHICS
WHAT IS ETHICS?
a system of moral principles
deals with values relating to
human conduct, with respect to
the rightness and wrongness of
certain actions, also to the
goodness and badness of the
motives and ends of such
actions.
COMMUNICATION ETHICS?
the notion that an individual’s or
group’s behavior are governed
by their morals which in turn
affects communication.
Generally, it deals with the good
moral present in any form of
human communication .
10 BASICS OF ETHICAL
COMMUNICATION
1. Seek to “get the best” in
communication and interaction
with other people.
2. Listen when others speak.
3. Speak non-judgmentally.
4. Speak from your own experience
and perspective, expressing your
own thoughts, needs and feelings.

5. Seek to understand others (rather
than to be “right” or ethical than you).
6. Avoid speaking for others.
7. Manage your own personal
boundaries: share only what you ae
comfortable to share.
8. Respect the personal boundaries of
others.

9. Avoid interrupting and side
conversations.
10.Make sure that everyone has time
to speak, that all members have
relatively equal “air time” if they
want it.
