HOW DOES ONE BECOME
a NATIONAL ARTIST?

• Applies to living artists who have been Filipino citizens for
the last ten (10) years prior to nomination, as well as those
who have died after the establishment of the award in 1972
but were Filipino citizens at the time of their death.

• Artists who have helped build a Filipino sense of nationhood


through the content and form of their works.

• Artists who have distinguished themselves by pioneering in a


mode of creative expression or style, making an impact on
succeeding generations of artists.
HONORS AND
PRIVILEGES

• Gold-plated medallion made by the Bangko Sentral
ng Pilipinas
• A minimum cash award of P200,000.00 net if alive,
and P150,000.00 net if already dead.
• A minimum lifetime personal monthly stipend of Thirty
Thousand Pesos (P30,000.00)
• A State Funeral benefit not exceeding P500,000.00.

• AWARDED IN 1972
• First National Artist of the
Philippines
• Most of his paintings portrayed
the Filipino culture, tradition,
and customs like Fiestas.
• Became popular because of his
illuminated landscapes and his
historical paintings on which
you can see the real reflection
of a Filipino soul.

• He is perhaps best known for

AQUINO
• Designated as a National Artist
for Dance in 1973
• She was recognized for her
outstanding contribution
towards the advancement of
Filipino Culture through her
tremendous research on the
local folk dances and games in

nickname "King of Philippine
Movies” or “Da King”

prevalent in our society during his
