Introduction

• Based on real time transactional data

• Integrated with Fusion and requires no additional system or security configuration

• Easy for business users to access, analyze, and use the transactional information

• Security enabled by permission of folders and reports

• Can be scheduled to run periodically

Key Terms

 Subject Area: Set of information for analysis grouped into a functional area. For example: employee
salary details, employee stock options are grouped under the broader topic named ‘Compensation’

 Dimension: Represented as sub-folder under subject area. It is sub-grouping of related information.

Dimension is a collection of reference information. For example: Employee information like date of
birth, marital status, and ethnicity

 Fact: Fact are measurements, metrics or facts of a business process, without dimensions facts are
meaningless numbers.

 Attributes/Data elements: Data elements under subject area

Creating Analysis

To create an analysis in BI Composer (OTBI), you use the following steps:

 Select Columns: Select the columns that are to be included in the analysis. You can also specify
column interactions, specify a column formula, rename a column, and hide a column.

 Select Views: Select the views that are to be included in the analysis, such as a title, table, pivot table,
bar graph, and so on. (Note that not all views available in Oracle BI Enterprise Edition are supported in
BI Composer.) You can also preview the results and display the associated XML code.

 Edit Table: Edit the layout of the tabular view (if you have included a tabular view). For example, you
can create prompts, use a column to section the analysis, and exclude certain columns from the
tabular view. You can also preview the results.

 Edit Graph: Edit the properties and layout of the graph (if you have included a graph view). For
example, you can create prompts, use a column to section the analysis, and exclude certain columns
from the graph. You can also preview the results.

 Sort and Filter: Apply sorting and filters to the views. You can also preview the results.

 Highlight: Apply conditional formatting to the tabular view, such as highlighting rows in different colors
(if you have included a tabular view). You can also preview the results.

 Save: Save the analysis with the same name or with a different name.
OTBI – Limitations

• No BI presentation Layer modification capability : SaaS customer can only use delivered data
elements.

subject areas is possible only when the attributes used are from the dimensions that are common
across the multiple subject areas.

• Limited out of box reports – Delivered HR reports are available under /Shared Folders/Human
Capital Management.

• No complete documentation of available subject areas
