Introduction Chapter 1-3
 The Longman dictionary (1995) defines research as “The studious study of a
subject, that is intended to discover new facts or test new ideas; the activity of
finding information about something that one is interested in or needs to know
about”
 Something that people undertake in order to find things out in a systematic way,
thereby increasing their knowledge’ (Saunders et al., 2009)
 The process of finding solutions to a problem after a thorough study and analysis
(Sekaran, 2006)
 Systematic inquiry that provides information to guide decision (Cooper &
Schindler, 2001)
 Is research always problem-solving based? Yes.
 Gathering information needed to answer a question, and thereby help in solving a
problem.
 Systematic and organized effort to investigate.
 Research is Knowledge Creation:
 Academic and Practical Knowledge
 Relevance Gap
Basic Research
 Pure/Fundamental/Academic
 Developing/Refuting/Supporting Theories. Expand Knowledge.
 Explanatory research is the most common
 Applied can also contribute.

Applied Research
 Solve specific problems to help practitioners. Market new product.
 Choose one policy over the other
 For improving productivity like problem with machines, raw materials, persons working.

Project Project
a thesis attempts to create new knowledge by developing a hypothesis, conducting
data analysis, assessing your results, drawing conclusions from your research and
comparing your results to others..
a thesis addresses a broader, generalized issue.
A thesis paper feels more like the scientific method than a field project," according
to the University of Wisconsin.
Thesis papers are generally reserved for graduate students.
A thesis is the more appropriate choice if: you want to get a PhD or other advanced
degree and want the experience of writing for publication.
Software Management Project written in a systematic and formal approached.
A software development process is concerned primarily with the production
aspect of software development, as opposed to the technical aspect, such as
software tools. These processes exist primarily for supporting the management of
software development, and are generally skewed toward addressing business
concerns.
Software engineering proposal is a document that a software developer submits to
a business customer for acceptance.
capstone project addresses a specific problem, issue or concern in your field of
study
A capstone project tests your understanding of core concepts in your field of study
and requires you to apply them to current situations.
A capstone project focuses on a narrow, specific topic
a capstone project might require you to produce a solution to a business or
scientific problem. Capstone projects don't require original research, but you must
perform background analysis, conduct library research, examine similar projects
and review best practices, according to the University of North Carolina.
Choose a narrow topic for a capstone project, for which you can provide expertise
and a comprehensive analysis. In some cases, a capstone project deals with a
specific company that's trying to improve productivity or solve a workplace
concern.

2. University E-Communication System
a. E-Communication Generation and Barcode Tagging
b. E-Communication Monitoring and Notification
c. E-Communication Smart Filing System
d. Smart Cabinet with E-Communication System
3. IoT for smart equipment Inventory and Monitoring System
4. IoT for Green Laboratory ( Automatic On/Off/Adjustment of all Lab Equipment)
 E-Communication Generation and Barcode Tagging
This is the preparation of the communication for Automated Logging using
barcode reader.
Tagging for identification of the communication related to the type of the
communication, sender, and the likes necessary for communication
management.
The research also focuses on the design, ergonomics and flow of the system for a
convenient system utilization.
 E-Communication Monitoring and Notification
 The research focus on the dynamics of creating a route of the communication
and the people that will evaluate and sign the communication.
The research will established the logging system of the communication ( IN and
OUT) using barcode reader. Monitoring of the duration of the communication
consumed per agencies will be monitored and computed.
 E-Communication Smart Filing System
 The system will implement neural network for the identification of the communication.
 The system will organized the communication.
 Code injection will be applied to file for Management ( Accessing, Retrieving of the file,
and deleting) for printing and more transactions.
 Smart Cabinet with E-Communication System
 The physical filing system installed with LED for filing identification and location.
 The physical cabinet is powered with the smart filing system
 The physical cabinet also features automatic opening and closing based on the
transaction done in Smart Filing System.
 ELIMINATELINES/QUEUES FOR GRADE, CLEARANCE,BALANCE AND
SCHEDULES QUERIES IN ICT, DEPARTMENT, ACCOUNTING AND DIFFERENT
AGENCIES.
 WITH THE FLEXIBLE DESIGN OF THE SYSTEM DIFFERENT QUERIES
TRANSACNTION, INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL CAN BE INTEGRATED FOR
HARMONIOUS AND UNOBTRUSIVE SERVICES( LIKE EXAMINATION RESULTS).
LIMITED ONLY TO TRANSACTION THAT DON’T REQUIRE PERSONAL AND SOCIAL
SERVICES.
 Development of device to attached to each equipment needed to be monitored for
maintenance.
 Integration of Attached devices to Raspberry Pi in capturing the status of the
equipment.
 Development of Central Monitoring System Raspberry Pi as the input.
 The setup of the research will the same with sir Jaymer research but focuses on the
utilization and restriction of laboratories equipment.
 Accessing and utilization of PC per student through ID bar code reading and
scheduling.
 Accessing of the laboratory of faculty through ID bar code reading and scheduling.
 Automatic power and temperature adjustment based on the attendance..
