Behavior of Light

Light
 Has a wave property and also has a particle from
the studies and theories of remarkable physicist.
 Does not bend around corners so whenever there
is an object that blocks some of the light,a
shadow is created.
 It can pass through, bounce off or be absorbed by
matter.
Natural of Light
The greeks believed that
light consisted of tiny
particles called CORPUCLES
emitted from the light
source.
Scientist who was Studied the Wave
Nature of light

Proposed the corpuscular on the particle

Theory to explain reflection and refraction
properties of light.
 A dutch physicist and astronomer proposed that light
might be some kind of wave motion.
 He also showed that this wave theory of light could
also explain reflection and refraction.
Thomas Young

Provided experimental proof to the wave

theory of light.
James Clerck Maxwell

A scottist physicist stated a theory that light

was a form of high frequency electromagnetic
spectrum.
Heinrich Rudolf Hertz

A german physicist provided experimental

proof of Maxwell’s theory of light by producing
and detecting electromagnetic waves.
Max Planck

 Physicist
who developed the quantization
model of light is present in bundles called
PHOTONS.
Albert Einstein

 Idealizedphotoelectric effect that

validated the particles property of light.
Arthur Comptons

He suggested that including light

behaves like a particle.
Louis-Victor de Broglie

 He extended the possibility further by proposing

that matter can have wave properties and thus
reinforced the fact that light and even matter has
a dual nature.
Galileo Galilei

Studied how fast light travels.

Reflection and Refraction

Reflection-when an object or wave

bounces back off a surface.
Refraction-bending of lighgt waves
due to a change in speed.
Intensity of Light
 One of the characteristics of light which can be
associated with its strength through the energy
transmitted by the light.
 Depends upon the amount of light or the number
of photons that passes a certain area or space.
 It is affected by the wavelength and frequency of
light wave.
Intensity and Brightness

 Intensity-the quantity that measures

the amount of light illuminating a
surface.
 Brightness-is the qualitative
measurement of the intensity of light.
Transmission of Light
 Transparent
-matter that transmits most of the light that strikes.
Example:

Magnifying glass
Glass
Translucent-allow some light to pass through but you
cannot clearly see objects through them.
Example:

Tissue Paper

Frosted Glass
Opaque
-Matter that reflects or absorbs but does not
transmit light.
Example:

Wall Human
