MOUNT OLYMPUS

Mount Olympus is the mythical home of the gods in Greek


mythology. According to authors, the mountain was created after
the Titanomachy, the epic battle between the young gods, the
Olympians and the older gods, the Titans. As a result of this battle,
the Olympian victors created their new majestic home – Mount
Olympus.

Function of Mount Olympus. Apart from being the residence of


the Twelve Olympians, Mount Olympus was also the meeting
place of all the gods.

In the ancient Greek world, the Twelve
great gods and goddesses of the Greeks
were referred to as the Olympian Gods,
or the Twelve Olympians. The name of
this powerful group of gods comes from
Mount Olympus, where the council of
12 met to discuss matters.

ZEUS

• Zeus was the father of the


famous Greek hero
Hercules. The name Zeus
means "bright" or "sky.“
His weapon of choice was the
thunderbolt, made for him by the Cyclops.
• Often referred to as the “Father of Gods and men”, he is a
sky god who controls lightning (often using it as a
weapon) and thunder. Zeus is king of Mount Olympus,
the home of Greek gods, where he rules the world and
imposes his will onto gods and mortals alike.

• POSEIDON

• Poseidon was allotted


his dominion after
the fall of the Titans.
He wielded the trident or three-pronged spear
• God of the sea, earthquakes, storms, and horses
• Son of Cronus and Rhea and was swallowed by
his father along with Hades, Demeter, Hestia
and Hera.

He was also called the God of


Wealth or “the rich one”
because he possessed the
precious metals of the earth.
• His wife was Persephone,
• Son of the Titans Cronus and
Rhea, and brother of the
