Abstract
Raw materials are basic substance in natural , modified , or , semi-processed state used in the primary production or manufacturing of goods.
Raw materials are the resources used by a company to produce its finished products . It also determine the quality and cost of producing an
items by companies. It is the basic substances through which any products are made .
Examples: Raw materials for chocolate are:- Cocoa Beans , Cocoa Nibs,
Cocoa husk, sugar, Fruit & Nut chocolates , etc..
Types of Raw materials: Raw materials can be divided into two groups:
direct and indirect
Raw materials for chocolates
Direct materials: It is used within the final product. For examples : the wood used to make furniture or the fabric used to make clothing.
Indirect materials: These are used throughout the production process, but are not directly included in the final product. For examples: oils
used to maintain machinery or the light bulbs used in the factory.
Identification of particles in Raw materials: Raw materials should have certain quality with respect to physical and chemical composition.
They also need to have no contaminants in the form of particles because these could get into the product or indicate the raw materials are
not pure enough to make a good product. If any particles are found , it is important to identify their chemical and elemental composition to
correct any process errors that can cause them and to have acceptable quality of the final product. Sources of materials can be the
environmental , process, equipment, and processing , and packaging. For identification of particles in raw materials , generally Raman
Spectroscopy, Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS), and IR spectroscopy tools are used because they are fast and accurate.
Solving raw materials challenges:
A comprehensive understanding of the chemical and physical aspects of raw materials transformation into clinker is an important
foundation to increasing production , reducing cost, and improving quality at the cement plant.
The impurities contained in the raw materials used by the aluminum industry pose challenges that must be managed from various
perspective. These includes ; product quality, cost and impact upon the work environment and areas that surround smelters.
In raw materials, quality maintenance is very important in baby food production as the contaminant limits are much lower then other food
stuffs and any other producing items.
The operation of a supply chain typically involves numerous units with many degrees of freedom by which to optimally manipulate the
performance of a large network.
