Narrator: The Negros Oriental State University Library is
a hub and academic center of the University. PHYSICAL FEATURES • The library is strategically accessible to all library clients. It is located at the 2nd floor of the CAS Building. It has a sitting capacity of 1000 with a square meter of 418.09. It has the Librarian’s Office, Technical Working Area, Internet Research Station, and the different sections of the library such as Reserved Section, Filipiniana Section, Barry Thompson Section, Circulation Section, Periodical Section, Reference Section, Graduate School Library and the College of Law. (Narrator: The library is located at the 2nd Flr of the College of Arts and Sciences building with a seating capacity of a thousand (1000). It is open at 7:00 A.M and closes at 7:00 P.M. from Monday until Saturday with no noon break. • It is managed by licensed and professional librarians. Mrs. Felicris Bokingkito as the College Librarian II and Ms. Riza Mae Tirambulo as the Cataloguing and Technical Services librarian. Narrator: • The library has a wide collection of information resources to support the teaching, learning, and research mission of the University. • The undergraduate reference collections • Graduate studies’ reference collections • Theses & dissertations • Filipiniana collections • William Barry Thompson (WBT) collection of health and medical references • Volumes of encyclopedia, dictionaries, and other general reference materials. • Serials or periodicals such as scholarly journals, educational magazines and newspapers for current events. • An ample collection of Fiction books for recreational readings. • Information materials from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas • Collection of law books, research journals, Supreme Court Reports Annotated (SCRA), law and case digests. • A variety of audio-visual materials. • And subscriptions to online databases such as GALE; McGraw Hill Access Pharmacy and Engineering; Lib Tech; and Hein Online which can be accessed within the library or outside the University campus for as long as there is internet connection. Narrator: • Students are advised to search the information needed through the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) via the library computer terminals or by using the good old Card Catalog. You may also ask for the assistance of a library staff. Narrator: • The information resources in the library are always available and accessible by everyone in the academic community for free. • Book Borrowing – The service provided for the members of the academe to use the library resources for their educational needs. The undergraduate; graduate; filipiniana and WBT collections are the references allowed for checked-out or for overnight use while the rest are for library use only. • The request for an overnight use of book starts from 4:00P.M. and the lent item should be returned at 8:00A.M. the following day. Each student are allowed to borrow 2 items for overnight use. However, fiction books can be borrowed for 1 week. • A library fine will be charged to the student who failed to return the book on time. Php5.00 for the 1st hour and Php2.00 for every succeeding hour. • A borrower may renew a book as many times as long as there are no request for the same title. • Presenting your validated university I.D. is the requirement needed to start using library resources. Narrator: • Aside from book borrowing, the library also offers the following services: • Library orientation and instruction – providing students the overview of the services in the library and how to use its resources. • Provision of vertical files – these are important articles with research and historical value which are classified by subjects. • Research and reference service assistance – librarians provide assistance to both students and faculty for their educational needs. • Cataloguing and Technical Services – responsible in the organization of information resources by subjects to be easily accessed by the library users. • and Internet service which is free to use for 1 hour – the availability of a communication medium that allows library users to make unlimited connections to retrieve information. Narrator: Library Rules and Procedures • The University Library is open to all students, members of the faculty and the rest of the educating community. • University identification card are required to be worn at all times upon entering the library. • Bags and backpacks are to be left at the baggage area but important gadgets and valuable items are allowed to be brought in the library. • Silence must be observed at all times. • Vandalizing any library or University property is prohibited. • Library patrons who have damaged, torn or mutilated library materials shall be made to pay a sum equal to the full value of the disfigured materials and suspension of library privileges for a week. Repetition of the said offense will be subject to disciplinary action by the Disciplinary Board of the University. • Trash should be disposed of properly. • Theses, dissertations, serials or periodicals, audio-visual materials and general reference books such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, yearbooks, atlases are to be read inside the library only. Narrator: Library Rules and Procedures 1. When a book is lost or not returned at a reasonable time after notice has been sent, the borrower must replace it with exactly the same book. In case it is out of print, the borrower shall pay the current price of the book including the mailing cost. 2. Stakeholders or students from other institutions who are engaged in RESEARCH must have clearance first from the Librarian before they can use the library. 3. Students need to present their validated IDs before they can access the books and other resources of the library. 4. Students who willfully refuse or neglect to fulfill their library obligation shall forfeit the privilege of using the library. 5. Observance of the LIBRARY RULES AND PROCEDURES is required. It is one of the library’s missions to foster an atmosphere that encourages diversity, excellence, and continued growth in finding ways to surpass our own standards. In that, the library ensures to preserve knowledge by developing its collection to be accessed, delivered and retrieved by the members of the academic community .
