History and origin of

Baybayin
history
Baybayin was used to write short things such
as poetry and announcement/s.

Usually was carved in natural material, such


as bamboo and pots.

Baybayin means "to spell" , "to syllabize" , " to


write" .

First distinguished as symbols and patterns


by the Filipino ancestors to communicate.
Commonly engraved emblems inside a
cave.
Continued to use up until the early
Spanish Colonization era.
During Spanish colonization era,
Spanish priest tries to decipher (decode)
baybayin characters but ended up
westernizing it.
Replaced by the latin alphabet.
The
DOCTRINA
CHRISTIANA
: very
first book printed
containing baybayin. It
was published in 1593
as a tool to convert
the natives to
christianity.
Factors affecting why
Baybayin is now out
New generation - in order to adapt this new
society,one had to learn new things. One of
those wait a second a new writing system.
Standards for literacy were different.
Some have thought that its similar to 'alibata'.
Advancement of technology
Times were changing and the standards for
literacy were different.
