Defining meaning and
experience, how the lexicon can
be affected by the experience
What is meaning?
• Core meaning: presented in the dictionary
• Meaning: how we understand about the real
things
• Meaning: from the outside world, assigned
into the words
Experience and cognition
• Experience: the knowledge and skill that you
have gained through doing something for a
period of time
• Cognition: the process by which knowledge
and understanding is developed in the mind
The relation
• Different experiences => different definitions
• More experience => more understandings =>
more meaning
• Example: “bus”:
a means of transportation
a set of wires that carries information

Lexical Resource Analysis:
✓ The use of vocabulary seems quite reasonable
but attempts to use a wider range are not
always successful (see corrections above).
✓ Probably not quite good enough for 7.

Edited essay:
Nowadays, money is one of the most significant materials in our lives. To many people, it
is appropriate to marry for money rather than love. However, I believe that both love and
money should be combined in any marriage.
• Certainly, money plays an important part in our lives. It is hard for any persons to
accept a partner who does not have money or at least a job to take care of their future
family. Hence, it is said, “marry for money” is right in some extent.
• However, love should be the basis of any marriage. Firstly, it is because love is such
a strong bond between two persons who have their own lives, and become one. So,
they can share each other’s sadness, happiness to overcome any difficulties in their
daily lives. Moreover, love makes people grow up because they do not only have
responsibility to themselves, but also to their partners as well. That is why marrying
for love is always an advantage.
• In my opinion, I think that love and money are both necessary. A marriage relying on
money would rapidly disintegrate when unfortunately the money ran out. In contrary, a
marriage relying on love would sometimes come to end when they could not earn
money to carry out family duties such as paying bills, buying food, etc. For the above
reasons, love and money should co-exist within marriage even though their
relative contribution to it could be uneven
• As we have seen, marriage without either money or love would come to an unhappy
end. So I believe that they both make their own contribution to a happy family.

Edited essay
• It is argued that the act of giving lectures of students in the conventional classroom is an
outdated teaching and learning method, and education should take place exclusively on the
Internet. I disagree that e-learning can be substituted for the traditional classroom due to two
main reasons.
• Initially, online students could have done it but they did not interact directly with their peers
throughout their learning process. Because of learning through serecies, not only do students
tend to be independent in online courses, but they are also short of communication with their
classmates. Moreover, students are restricted to online conservations unlikely in a traditional
classroom where they have face to face interaction with their classmates to exchange ideas. As
a result, the link between online learners and their peers lead to less support than what they
could have in the conventional classroom environment. In other words, e-learning hinders
students' motivation and competitiveness and leads to weaker bonds among peers.
• The other consideration for learners to participate in an online learning program demands a
variety of equipment. That is to say, students have to be equipped with at least a computer and
stable Internet connection, particularly Internet connection to access e-learning. In contrast,
students are only required to have basic school supplies such as pens and notebooks, which are
significantly more affordable than an Internet-connected laptop, in order to attend
conventional classes. It is, therefore, more difficult for underprivileged learners to take part in
online courses.
• All things considered, the conventional classroom environment has never replaced for online
learning programs owing to the reasons mentioned above. It is advisable for educators and

Edited essay:
• Over the period of the last 10 years, a huge surge in the availability of the online
educational programmes for grown-ups has been observed. This trend is perceived
differently by learners. Many have appreciated and recognised its benefits, while
others find these programmes ineffective in comparison to the conventional
instruction method. This essay will discuss the merits and demerits of distance
learning.
• Correspondence courses not only provide the optimum education in the comfort of
one's own home but also according to their own chosen time schedule. Moreover,
applicants can apply and pay the fee for the course from anywhere across the globe
without even visiting the university personally. For an instance, an aspirant in Delhi
can apply and join the online programme in any of the Canadian university without
visiting the country.
• However, the biggest drawback of e-learning is less or a complete absence of
teacher-student interaction. It lacks the practical aspects of learning and thus
encourages passive learning. As a result, students find it less effective method to
attain the best knowledge. According to the recent survey, seventy percent of the
students enrolled in the online courses found it unsatisfactory.
• To conclude, the enormously growing attainability of online education has gained
its popularity among the young adults. Many learners find it as a boon to continue
their education at their own ease while many recognise this as less efficient due to
lack of practical knowledge associated. Hence, online learning has both the pros
and cons, it's the applicant's discretion to opt according to his requirements
