The Physics of Flight

By: Caleb Elijah

Forces

- When it comes to most flying things there are four main forces of physics.

1.Lift

2.Thrust

3.Gravity

4.Drag
Lift

- A plane's wings have something called ailerons that help keep planes stable
horizontally. There are also a flaps on the tail of the plane called an elevator.
This completely controls the plane's ability to ascend or descend.
Thrust

- When it comes to engines the are mostly two types the create thrust. The first
one is a piston engine which uses propellers to create mosty thrust and a little
lift another type of engine is the jet engine where air is compressed and mixed
with fuel to create masses amounts of thrust.

-Most modern day planes uses a combination of both

Gravity

- Gravity is the counteractant to lift the heavier the plane is the more lift would
be needed to keep the plane from staling.
Drag

- Drag is the resistance of the air. There lower Altitude you are the more drag a
aircraft experiences. This is because at higher altitude the air is less
compressed. This also means that it takes less thrust to move farther at higher
altitude which saves fuel. That's the main reason planes fly so high
Finally

- planes were a very important part of a past present and future
