INTRODUCTION
 Virtual reality (VR) is a term used to describe an experience of a
reality that is not real, but simulated.
 Virtual Reality (VR) is not an entirely new concept; it has existed in
various forms since the late 1960s.
 It has been known by names such as synthetic environment,
cyberspace, artificial reality and so forth.
 The latest manifestation of VR is desktop VR also called Window on
3
world(WoW).
CONT’D
 VR will come with the realm in education where computerbased

virtual learning environments are packaged as desktop VR.
 The  ability  to  view  images  in  3D  has  been  enabled  through  the

invention of virtual reality.
 This is the latest innovation, which is having a great influence on

how humans can view images in another form.
 There  are  so  many  projects  in  progress  like  3600    view  of  objects

and so on. 4
VR TECHNOLOGY
 Advances in Computer Science and Engineering experienced visually in
the three dimensions of width, height, and depth .
 it also provide collaborative experience visually in full real-time motion
with sound and possibly with tangible forms of feedback.
 VR is a way for humans to visualize, manipulate and interact with
computers and extremely complex data.
 It is an artificial environment created with computer and presented to the
user as appears and feels like a real environment 5
VR REQUIREMENTS
 The goal of virtual reality is to put the user in the loop of a real-time
simulation, immersed that can be autonomous and responsive.
 VR uses either one or a combination of the following requirement as input
and generating simulated environment as output .
 User input
 Position tracking
 Eye tracking
 Full body motion
6
CONT’D
 Sensory feedbacks
Visual feedback

Hepatic feedback

Sound feedback

Olfactory feedback

VR COMPONENTS
 A VR system is made up of two major subsystems, the hardware and
software.
 The software is the set of tools and applications
 It can be divided into application software and database as illustrated
below.
 The hardware can be further divided into different components such as
VR engine and I/O devices,
9
CONT’D
Head Mounted Display(HMD)
 Head-mounted displays or HMDs are probably the most instantly
recognizable objects associated with virtual reality.
 They are sometimes referred to as Virtual Reality headsets or VR glasses.

10
CONT’D
Audio Units
 Sound effects in virtual reality rely on a prerecorded sound set.
 This aspect of the virtual reality experience is less prone to alteration.
 Three-dimensional sound is achieved through the use of complex filtering
devices.
 This technology must take into account the delay in the detection of sound
by the ear that is furthest away from the source of sound.
11
CONT’D
Data Globes
  Data glove is an interactive device, resembling a glove worn on

the hand.
  It facilitates tactile sensing and finemotion control in robotics

and virtual reality.
 Tactile sensing involves simulation of the sense of human touch

like the ability to perceive pressure, temperature and texture.

TYPES OF VIRTUAL REALITY
o There are different types of devices that will all come together at some
point to create a complete set of VR hardware.
o However, there will remain a number of different types of Virtual Reality
systems.
o One way of classifying virtual reality is based on the company
manufactured them.
o The other way to distinguish one from another will be the mode with
13
which it interfaces with its users.
CONT’D
 Enhanced Reality:-

o It is also called mixed reality(AR & VR).

o This is the most recent development in reality technologies that starts
with the real world.
o virtual objects are not overlaid on the real world but can interact with it.
o In this case, a user remains in the real-world environment while digital
content is added to it.
14
CONT’D
 Desktop Virtual Reality :-

o Desktop Virtual reality is sometimes called Window on World
(WoW) systems.
o  It is generated on powerful computer screen and displayed on
its virtual space
o The challenge to this VR is the difficulty to make the picture
in the window look real, sound real and the objects act real.

15
CONT’D
 Immersive Virtual Reality :-

o Immersive virtual reality is the presentation of an artificial environment

that replaces users' real-world surroundings.
o Immersiveness is an important elements of virtual reality applications.
o There are different elements of virtual environment the increases the
immersiveness of the experience.
