Paper Battery:
❖ A paper battery is a flexible, ultra- thin energy storage and
production device formed by combining carbon nanotubes with a
conventional sheet of cellulose-based paper.
❖ In addition to being unusually thin, paper batteries are flexible and
environmentally-friendly, allowing integration into a wide range of
products. Their functioning is similar to conventional chemical
batteries with the important difference that they are non-corrosive
and do not require expensive housing.
❖ PAPER BATTERY= CARBON NANOTUBES + CELLULOSE
(PAPER).
Basic structure:
Working:
❖ A conventional battery or rechargeable battery contains a number of
separate components that produce electrons through a chemical
reaction between the metal and the electrolyte of the battery.
❖ The paper battery works when the paper is dipped in the ion-based
liquid solution; next a chemical reaction occurs between the
electrodes and liquid. The electrons move from the cathode to
anode to generate electricity.
❖ The paper electrode stores energy while recharging within 10
seconds because the ions flow through the thin electrode quickly.
Construction of paper battery:
❖ A paper battery construction involves the following components:

Advantages and disadvantages:
❖ Advantages:
▪ A paper battery can work even if it folded, cut or rolled up.
▪ It is bio-degradable, non-toxic, ultrathin.
▪ It is durable, easily recyclable, reusable and low cost.
▪ Flexible, long life and very light weight.
▪ Easily moldable into different sizes and shapes.
❖ Disadvantages:
▪ Low shear strength can be torn easily.
▪ CNT production techniques is expensive.
▪ It should not be inhaled as they can damage the lungs.
▪ These batteries generate e-wastage.
Conclusion :
● The range of possible application for paper batteries derives from
their important advantages as compared to conventional battery
technologies.
● They can be made in virtually any shape and size to meet the
requirements of each application.
● The batteries are rechargeable, and have reduced cost and weight
which in itself may give birth to new applications.
● Paper battery could solve all the problems associated with electrical
energy storage.
