Foundation Training Programme

for Deputy Managers of NHAI

Indian Academy of Highway Engineers (IAHE)

Introduction about IAHE
 Registered as a Society in January 1983 in the name of
“Highway Training Institute” under the administrative
control of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways
 Started Operations from a rented accommodation in Delhi
since April 1985 with name changed as National Institute
for Training of Highway Engineers (NITHE).
 Shifted to its own campus at Sector – 62, NOIDA, UP
w.e.f. Oct, 2001.
 Name change to Indian Academy of Highway Engineers
(IAHE) on 12th January 2011.
 Organizes training for Highway Sector Engineers and
professionals of Central / State Govts., PSUs, Contractors,
Consultants etc.
 Also imparts training to Highway Professionals from abroad
under various plans/ schemes of Government of India/
International Organizations.
Objectives of IAHE
• To impart training to engineers & professionals of Highway
Sector at entry level and during service at different levels
of Central & State Govts., Public and Private sectors.
 To help highway sector engineers build up character and
develop an all round personality as a part of Human
Resource Development
 To assist various organizations in developing their training
institutes and training of their faculty
 To promote co-operation and foster exchange of
knowledge, ideas and experience in all the sphere of
highway engineering among engineers in India and Abroad
 To imparts training to Highway sector Professionals from
India and Abroad (IAFS, SAARC countries, Colombo Plan
countries, ITEC countries and other Afro-Asian countries)

Highway Development Programme
 Length of roads in India:
 National Highways: 131326 km
 State Highways: 176166 km
 District Roads: 561940 km
 Urban Roads: 509730 km
 Rural Roads: 3935337 km
 Other Roads: 319109 km
• Bharatmala Pariyojana covers network of 65,400 km out of
which Phase I has been approved by Union Govt. for 24,800
km in addition to 10,000 km length of Remaining National
Highways under NHDP at a cost of Rs. 5,35,000 crores to
be spent by 2022
 India spent Rs. 1.16 trillion in 2018-19 on road improvement

Faculty
 IAHE invites the faculty who is subject expert
and have relevant codal & field experience.

 Generally, IAHE invites the Faculty who is


serving/retired at Senior-Level from M/o
RT&H , NHAI, CRRI, IITs, various State PWDs
and other academic Institutions including of
reputed private organizations viz. Consultancy
Firms, Contractors/Concessionaires etc.
ACCOMMODATION
 IAHE has 90-bedded fully furnished air-
conditioned Hostel with dining, recreational
facilities, LED TVs, etc. A Common Room with
adequate recreational facilities, such as net access,
Billiards/Snooker Table, Table Tennis, Carom,
Chess, etc. is available for participants staying in
the Hostel. Besides this, a Badminton court and a
Volleyball is also available within the premises.
Foundation Training Programme
 Four weeks duration Foundation Training Programme covers:
 National Highway Act, Road Development Plans etc.
 Organisation Structure of MoRTH & NHAI, NHAI act and
Rules etc.
 Overview of DPR Preparation
 Modern Survey Techniques (Viz. Total Station, Auto Level,
DGPS and LIDAR) with hands on training.
 Traffic Survey
 Pavement inventory and conditions survey.
 Geometric Design Standards and hands on training on MX Road
software
 Construction of Embankments and GSB/WMM
 Design of Flexible and Rigid Pavements
 Design of overlay/strengthening existing pavement
 Concrete Mix Design and Bituminous Mix Design along with
laboratory practice.
 Construction and Maintenance of Flexible and Rigid Pavements

• To develop, maintain and manage National Highways vested
in it by the Government.
• To collect fees on National Highways, regulate and control
the plying of vehicles on National Highways for its proper
management.
• To develop and provide consultancy and construction
services in India and abroad and carry on research
activities in relation to the development, maintenance and
management of highways or any other facilities there at.
• To advise the Central Government on matters relating to
highways.

• To assist on such terms and conditions as may be mutually


agreed upon, any State Government in the formulation and
implementation of schemes for highway development.

Expectation from Participants
 During the Training Programme

 Participants shall follow rules of IAHE during the


training programme

 Shall punctual in the class room

 shall interact with Faculty during the whole lecture

 Will ask the question to the faculty whenever fail to


understand the subject

 Keep themselves present mentally and physically in the


class room
Expectation from Participants
 Assessment of Trainees and Evaluation

 Every week feedback will be taken by IAHE on the


training delivered and the services provided viz.
accommodation, food etc. Trainees shall participate
and give their valuable feedback.

 On the first day of the training programme,


performance of trainees shall be assessed. For the
same, a test shall be conducted comprising of about
50 questions with one hour duration time.

 On the final day of the Training Programme, again


the performance of trainees shall be assessed. For
the same, again a test shall be conducted comprising
of about 50 questions with one hour duration time.
Expectation from Participants

The Performance of the Trainees shall be
evaluated and their reports shall be
forwarded to NHAI

 After completion of the Training Programme

Shall implement the learning in the field/


project sites.

Participants shall spread the learning from


IAHE among their Sub-ordinate staff and
Personnel of Consultant/ Contractors.
