• Volvo Cars stylized as VOLVO in the logo, is a Swedish luxury vehicle manufacturer
established in 1927.
• It is headquartered on Torslanda in Gothenburg and is a subsidiary of Chinese
automotive company Geely.
• Volvo Cars was founded in 1927 as a subsidiary of the ball bearing manufacturer SKF.
• The company was first listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange in 1935, and was on
the NASDAQ indices from 1985 to 2007.
• Volvo Cars manufactures and markets sport utility vehicles, station wagons, sedans &
compact executive sedans.
• UBER Technologies Inc. (doing business as Uber) is a peer-to-peer ridesharing, taxi
cab, food delivery, and transportation network company headquartered in San Francisco
California, with operations in 785 metropolitan areas worldwide.
• The meaning of name "Uber" is a reference to the common word "uber", called
"topmost" or “super”.
• UBER was founded in March 2009 by Travis Kalanick & Garrett Camp.
• UBER provides different services like UBER EATS, UBER FREIGHT, SELF DRIVING
VEHICLES, UBER ELEVATE, UBER HEALTH & UBER BIKE.

DRIVERLESS CAR
• Volvo Car Group had made a deal of $300 million alliance with Uber to develop
self-driving cars, the latest move by traditional vehicle manufacturers to team up with
Silicon Valley firms long seen as disruptive threats to their industry.
• Uber will purchase Volvos and then install its own driverless control system for the
specific needs of its ride-hailing service.
• Volvo will use the same vehicle for its own autonomous driving project, which is based
on a plan that still envisages having a driver in the car.
• The investment will go towards researching and developing both hardware, such as
sensors used to detect traffic and obstacles, as well as software for the self driving cars.
• The cars, in theory, would be available through the Uber app to pick up passengers
without a driver.

• Volvo Cars' engineers have worked closely together with engineers from Uber to
develop the XC90 premium SUVs that are to be supplied to Uber.

• Advocates of self-driving cars say that they can cut down on deadly traffic accidents by
eliminating human error.

• It gives opportunities to make operations fast.

• Partnership will be helpful in product as well as business development.

DISADVANTAGES
• Driverless rideshares is a loss of employment and income for the many
people who work for uber or for other companies.

• Loss of goodwill.
