Motivation:
Name that Animal: Identify the following animals in
their close up pictures.
Presentation
These animals represent the five classifications of vertebrates-
reptile, amphibian, mammal, bird, and fish. Let’s see how well
you are when it comes to classifying vertebrates by performing
our activity for today.

1. Divide the class into 3 groups.


2. Give the necessary instructions in doing the activity (allotted
time, data to be accomplished, group presenter/members’ role,
responsibility, precautionary measures, etc.)
3. Let the students perform the activities.
4. Supervise the students while doing the activity.
B. EXPLORE:
Group Activity: Animal Hunt!
Materials: Boxes with label
Assorted small toy animals
Preparation (for the teachers)
Prepare the following ahead of time:
1. Set all assorted small toy animals on a long table in a vacant room or in the
covered court.
2. Label all the 5 boxes- mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and fishes.
Activity:
Each group receives 5 boxes with corresponding labels. They have to collect at
least 5 animals per box. Teacher may assign time limit for the group to finish the
activity. The first group who finishes first will be declared winner. Teacher may give
prize or additional points for the winning group.
C. EXPLAIN
Let the representative of each group
present the results of the activity. They will
be given five minutes to present their
output. Encourage interaction among the
class. Teacher clarifies the misconceptions
and addresses questions.
D.ELABORATE
How did you classify the animals you placed in each
box?
What characteristics of mammals made you decide
that the animal you placed in the box is a mammal?
What helped you in classifying an animal as reptile?
How did you know that the animal is an amphibian?
When can we say that an animal is a bird?
How do fish differ in other vertebrates?
E. EVALUATE
ASSIGNMENT:
List 5 animals for each classification of vertebrates.
