Glitches Circuit
Examples
An electronics glitch is an undesired transition
that occurs before the signal settles to its
intended value.
Glitch is an electrical pulse of short duration

In digital circuits, usually the result of a fault

or design error

A pulse shorter than the specified minimum

is called a glitch.

Flip-flops are triggered by a pulse that must

not be shorter than a specified minimum
duration

The component may malfunction

Causes of Glitches

Occur in the presence of race condition in

a poorly designed digital logic circuit

Also occur due to unnecessary

switching
Explanation
Mostly, Due to propagation delay in the
circuit.

Example shows happening of an unexpected

zero are the circuit.

when the input change from 1 to 0, it takes a

short time for the inverter to provide a 1 at its
output

Short period of time both inputs to the OR

gate are zero, resulting in a zero at the output
of the OR gate. Time Diagram
How to over come?

The flip-flop is clocked at every clock cycle

Data path is basically controlled by enable.

When Enable is Low:

 The multiplexer feeds the output of the register
back on itself

When Enable is High :

 New data is fed to the flip-flop and the

register changes its state
Types Of Glitches Circuits
Gate Logic Circuit:

When one block of the circuit has a high delay

Glitch Generation
All the rest of the circuit will have to wait for this one block to provide a valid output.

Digital signal that allows the output of this circuit to pass through must wait for enough
time
