ALMOND

PRESENTED BY :
INTRODUCTION

 Almond (prunus dulcis) is A species of tree of the

genus prunus, native to the middle east.
 Also known as the king of nuts, is a highly
nutritious tree nut
 The largest traded dry fruit across the globe.

 An integral part of India's cultural heritage, and

Considered a prized brain food.
 Key ingredient in traditional Indian sweets, as
well as popular for gifting during festive seasons
such as Diwali.
THE WORLD IN A NUTSHELL

 There are more than 30 different varieties of almonds—yes,

really—and 10 of them comprise the majority of almonds
produced in California. And while the U.S. may be the largest
market for almonds with about 30-40% of the crop sold for
domestic use, the rest of our almonds are shipped
internationally.

 Almonds are grown in the United States more than anywhere

else on Earth. In fact, the United States dominates the global
production of almonds, followed by traditional almond
growers Spain and Italy. California, the largest almond
producer in the world, is the only place in North America that
grows almond for commercial purposes. The harvest is usually
enough to feed the nation and export to other countries. Other
countries mostly produce almond for home use. Apart from
California, the Middle East, and European countries also
produce the fruit. Germany is the biggest importer of almonds
followed by Japan and the Netherlands.

MT, in jammu & kashmir and parts of himachal
pradesh and uttarakhand.
 Imports 98% of its almond requirements.

 India ranks 3rd in the world in imports and

consumption of almond.
 Estimated market size of almond is rs 1400-1600
crores.
