Definition of Speaking
speaking is a process of a meaningful interaction that
involves producing, receiving, and processing information. In
learning context, speaking is said productive skills as the
opposite of receptive skills.
The Function of Speaking
Talk as interaction, talk as transaction, talk as perfomance.
The Component of Speaking
Pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension.
The Types of Classroom Speaking Performance
Imitative, intensive, responsive, transaction, interpersonal,
expensive (monologue).
Scientific Approach
Definition of Scientific Approach
scientific approach is learning process that encourage the students
to think systematically and critically in solving a problem (Baringer in
Abidin 2014:125).
The Procedure of Scientific Approach
Observing – Questioning - Collecting Information - Associating -Communicating.
Advantages & Disadvantages of scientific approach
Advantages of scientific approach:
- Improving the students’ ability in mastering the learning material.
- Developing the students’ ability in solving problems.
- Building the students’ sensibilty of the life context.
- Improving the students’ ability in communication.
Disadvantages of scientific approach:
- The time to prepare learning material and activities is quite long.
- The implementation requires more energy and cost.
- Uninteresting media will create boredom in learning process.
- The teacher and the students should be able to be creative.
Teaching Simple Present Tense by Using Scientific Approach
Observing
The students will observe a monologue with colorful pictures, read the
text beside the picture, analyzing the picture to translate and fill in the
blank about the activities of the picture.
Questioning
Based on the observing activity, the students will be stimulated to have
questions in their mind relating to the object they observed.
Collecting Information
The students can collect the information from the teacher explanation
and discussion.
Associating
The students will try to make the same monologue and read the
monologue.
Communicating
The students can make their own conclusion and present their
monologue in front of the class.
