Soil Moisture Sensor

Working Principle
In this plant watering system, Soil moisture
sensor checks the moisture level in the soil
and if moisture level is low then a water
pump is switched on to provide water to
the crops. Water pump gets switched off
automatically when the system finds
enough moisture in the soil. A threshold
moisture level is defined which is
compared to the input by the soil moisture
sensor. This threshold can be modified with
switches.

Why this Project?
• Farming accounts for 70 percent of the water consumed and most of its wasteful use,
said representatives of 130 nations at the World Water Forum discussing water
management.
• The former prime minister of France said, "There are great problems with irrigation. So
we must persuade farmers to go to less extensive crops. This works, but in a narrow
way. As we can see increasing population thrusts up the demand for food, using
extensive crops might be a solution to consume less water but cannot meet
consumption demand.

• So one of the apt solution to this is more efficient irrigation systems. Despite raising
food, they are the ones who go hungry.

• So greater efficiency would in turn free up some money for farmers to afford regular
commodities for their livelihood.

So we decided to make an affordable and efficient irrigation system.
