1
Pervious concrete is a concrete which contains little or no fine aggregate. The objective
of this work is to develop strong and durable pervious cement concrete mix using basalt
fibre and admixture. The percentage replacement of basalt fibre will be 0.1 ,0.2,0.3, 0.4
and 0.5 by volume of the concrete. We will cast cube and compressive strength test and
percolation test are to be conducted to obtain the necessary result. In addition we are
casting a slab using basalt reinforcement bar to increase flexural strength. Afterwards
flexural strength test and tensile strength test are to be performed. A large number of trial
mixes are required to find optimum percentage of basalt fibre to achieve the required
strength.

2
Pervious concrete is a special type of concrete with a high porosity used for concrete
flatwork applications that allows water from precipitation and other resources to pass
through it, thereby reducing the runoff from a site and recharging ground water levels. A
large amount of rainwater ends of falling on impervious surface such as parking lot,
driveways, sidewalks than soaking into the soil. This creates an imbalance to the natural
ecosystem and leads to a host of problems including erosion, floods, groundwater level
depletion and pollution of river, lakes etc. Instead of constructing them with conventional
concrete we should be switching to pervious concrete. Pervious concrete also naturally
filters water from rainfall or storm and can reduce pollutant loads entering into stream and
river.

3
In India road get damaged, mainly due to stagnantation of water for a longer period
of time. There is also a problem of water shortage due to decrease in water table.
Pervious concrete can be the Solution to overcome this problem but it has low
compressive strength and can’t resist heavy traffic load. So to increase its strength
we are using basalt fibre.

5
Scope of work
1. It can be seen from the literature review that for different environmentalbenefits we are going to design a
pervious concrete pavement.
2. If we implement this pervious concrete pavement in residential areas andhaving moderate traffic areas or in
college premises, we get sample of waterseepage.
3. To reuse this water by using proper drainage system. It reduces the storm waterrunoff and increases the rate
of filtration. The textured surface is especiallybeneficial during the most difficult and dangerous driving
conditions, such asin rainy season. It decreases the overuse of fine aggregate i.e. sand.
4. To dispose the waste material by using it in this concrete pavement.
6
• Low-volume pavements • Residential roads, alleys, and
driveways
• Sidewalks and pathways
• Parking lots
• Low water crossings
• Tennis courts
• Sub-base for conventional concrete
pavements • Foundations/floors for greenhouses,
fish hatcheries, aquatic centers, and
• Artificial reefs zoos

1. Compressive strength will be increased by addition of basalt fibres in pervious
concrete.
2. Optimum percentage of basalt fibres would be determined.
3. Flexural strength of pervious pavement will increase by using basalt reinforced
bars. Permeability varies for different mix design.
