ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We feel profound happiness in forwarding this industrial training report as an image of sincere efforts. It is almost in evitable to
ensure indebt ness to all who generously helped by sharing their valuable experience & devoting their precious time with us,
without whom this industrial training report would never have been accomplished. I am highly indebted to HMT TRAINING
INCHARGE for providing us with the opportunity of industrial training such reputed and leading industry where we were not only
trained in technical aspects but also on human grounds. We also thanks to the staff of the industry who, throughout the visit guided
us their valuable guidance is indeed praiseworthy in the entire process.

These factories were designed, build and commissioned by Indian talent without any foreign assistance in a record period of 17
months of breaking the ground on May 2, 1962 at a capital investment of Rs. 750 lakhs (inclusive of the township) and was
formally inaugurated by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the Prime Minister of India.

Over the years HMT successfully diversified into other engineering areas to manufacture prosses and press breaks. Die casting and
plastic injection molding machine watches, printing machines, lamps and lamp making machinery, Dairy machinery, tractors
bearings

PATTERN MAKING
Patterns provides the exterior(mould) or interior(core) shape of the finished casting and are produced in wood ,
metal or resin for use in sand mould and core making . Patterns are usually made in two halves.

SAND MOULD AND CORE MAKING

Sand casting is the most common production technique , especially for ferrous castings . Sand is mixed with clay
and water or chemical binders and then packed or rammed around the pattern to form a mould half . The two halves
are joined together to make the mould a rigid cavity that provides the required shape for the casting
CASTING AND SEPERATION
Molten metal is poured into moulds using various types of ladles or in high volume production, automated pouring
furnace . metal is poured into the runner(a channel into the mould cavity) until the runner bush is full. The riser
provides an additional reservior of feed metal to counteract the shrinkage that occurs as the casting begins to cool.

REMOVAL OF RUUNERS AND RISERS

After casting , these extraneous pieces of metal are removed and often collected for re-melting . In ferrous castings
and larger ferrous casting , they may be removed by knocking off , sawing or cutting using an arc air or oxy-propane
torch. In diecasting , they are often snapped off manually.
GEAR HOBBER
Gear hobber uses a hobbing machine with two skew spindles, were one mounted with a blank work piece and the
other with hob. The angle between the hobs spindle(axis) and the work pieces spindle varies, depending in the type
of product being produced.

There are three types of gears produced which include:

• Spur gear
• Helix angle of the hob
• Helical gear
Hobbing is basically a machining process for gear cutting, cutting splines and cutting sprockets on a hobbing machine, which is a
special type of milling machine
ROUND SECTION
In this section there are various processes included to make the round type objects for the use of machine tools. In
this division only the round shape material is done.
The machine located at round section are :
• Centre lathe machine
• Combined turning and drilling lathe
• Radial drilling machine
• Thread milling machine
• Tool grinder
• Surface grinder
NON ROUNDS SECTION
All the non round shape jobs that are to be used in machines are located in this division. And there are different tools
used for various machines with different tools used for various machines with different shapes other than rounds. It
can be occurred with various machines of conventional and CNC type machines .The components that are
manufactured in this division are like blocks , rectangular, strips , pump body , stop block , adjustable plate , clump
lever etc;
And the operations performed to make these components are
• Vertical milling machine
• Horizontal milling machine
• Universal milling
• Tapering
RADIAL DRILLIG PRODUCTION AND ASSEMBLY
Radial drilling machine is intended for drilling medium to large and heavy work pieces.
The machine consists of a heavy, round, vertical column mounted on a large base. The column supports a radial arm which can be raised and lowered to accommodate
work pieces of different height. The arm may be swung around at any position over the work bed.
The drill head containing mechanism for rotating and feeding the drill is mounted on a radial arm and can be moved horizontally on the guide ways and can be clamped
at any desired position. These three movements in a radial drilling machine can be combined together to permit the drill to be located at any desired point on the work
piece for drilling the hole.
When several holes are drilled on a large work piece, the position of the arm and drill head is altered so that the drill spindle may be moved from one position to the
other after drilling the hole without altering the setting of the work. This versatility of the machine allows it to work on large work pieces. The work may be mounted on
the table or when the job is large it may be placed on the floor or in a pit
ball screw is a mechanical linear actuator that translates rotational motion to linear motion with little friction. A threaded shaft provides a helical raceway for ball
bearings which act as a precision screw. As well as being able to apply or withstand high thrust loads, they can do so with minimum internal friction. They are made to
close tolerances and are therefore suitable for use in situations in which high precision is necessary. The ball assembly acts as the nut while the threaded shaft is the
screw. In contrast to conventional leadscrews, ball screws tend to be rather bulky, due to the need to have a mechanism to re-circulate the balls.
OUTPUT OF THE INTERNSHIP

Hence we conclude our report by successfully completing internship of duration of 4 weeks in HINDUSTAN
MACHINE TOOLS LIMITED. And we thank respected people head of various departments who allotted there time
and guided us through different process happening and sharing their knowledge with us which helped us in bridging
the gap between the college education and industrial requirement and gained lot of new information about various
machine and there working.
