Staff Orientation: Vygotsky’s Theories
● Here at Tropic Breeze Daycare we teach our staff during orientation about
the theories of the sociocultural theorist Lev Vygotsky
● Vygotsky believed that a crucial part of childhood development was
language, which is something we believe in as well
○ The school teaches children both english and hawaiian
● Child-adult and peer relationships are emphasized in the school as
interaction between staff and other classmates is encouraged
● Another part of Vygotsky’s theories we use is the importance of project-
based learning, which we do by providing lots of project activities for the
children
Staff Training: Diversity
● We will train the staff to recognize and emphasize diversity in the
classroom
● Teachers will be encourage to get to know the students’ background
● They will be required to incorporate different cultures, ethnicities and
genders into toys and activities
● They will also be required to celebrate different holidays for different
cultures to make sure that each student’s background is included and
respected
Staff Training: Health and Safety
● We require our staff to encourage children to stay active with both indoor
and outdoor activities
● Staff are required to monitor children at all times to prevent accidents
● We provide healthy food choices and model good nutrition for the
children
● Personal hygiene and hand washing are strictly enforced
● Teachers are not allowed to have any sharp objects in the class as well as
toxic objects such as shaving cream and playdoh
Balanced Learning Curriculum
● Combines the best thinking of renowned early learning philosophers like
Montessori, Piaget, Gesell and Vygotsky with modern wisdom from the
latest child development studies.
● Research shows that introducing a skill when a child is truly ready, leads
to mastery instead of frustration.
● This curriculum provides teachers with the tools and guidance to
accommodate children’s natural curiosity and to fully support each child
while building problem solving skills and confidence.
● Subjects include: Language & Literacy, Social Studies, Math, Science &
Engineering, Creative Arts, Physical Development and Social & Emotional.
