Layout
• Plant layout is the most effective physical
arrangement, either existing or in plans of
industrial facilities.
• Arrangement of machines, processing
equipment and service departments to
achieve greatest co-ordination and efficiency
of 4 M’s (Men, Materials, Machines and
Methods) in a plant.
Spinning mill layout
Objective of plant layout

• There are design changes in the product.

• There is an expansion of the enterprise.
• There is proposed variation in the size of the
departments.
• Some new product is to be added to the
existing line.
Objective of plant layout

• Some new department is to be added to

enterprise and there is reallocation of the
existing department.

• A new plant is to be set up.

Plant Layout principle
• Integration
• Minimum Movement and Material Handling,
• Smooth and Continuous Flow
• Cubic Space Utilization,
• Safe and Improved Environment,
• Flexibility, etc.

Factors Affecting Plant Location
• Nearness to raw material
• Transport facilities
• Nearness to markets
• Availability of labor
• Available of fuel and power (continued)

Blowroom line
Blow room is the process that takes care of opening,
cleaning and
blending of different fibres used in the mixing.

Operation
• Opening
• Cleaning
• Mixing or blending
• Micro dust removal
• Uniform feed to the carding machine
• Recycling the waste

Blowroom
Card Line
• High production carding has now become an
established practice for shortstaple fibres.
• Production capacity in recent carding
machines can be increased.
• substantially without deterioration in quality.
Purpose

• To open the flocks into individual fibres

• Cleaning or elimination of impurities
• Reduction of neps
• Elimination of dust
• Elimination of short fibres
• Fiber blending
• Fiber orientation or alignment
• Sliver formation

Draw Fram line

• Draw frame contributes less than 5% to

production cost of yarn.
• But its influence on quality is very big,
because drawing is the final process of quality
improvement in the spinning mill and quality
of draw frame sliver determines the final yarn
quality.
Task

• Through doubling the slivers are made even

• Doubling results in homogenization (blending)
• Through draft fibres get parallelised
• Hooks created in the card are straightened
• Through the suction, intensive dust removal is
achieved
• Autoleveller maintains absolute sliver fineness

Comber Line
Combing is the process, which serves to improve the raw
material.
Combed yarn is stronger, more uniform, has greater shine and is
smoother and purer.
Influences
• Yarn evenness
• Strength
• Cleanness
• Smoothness
• Visual appearance

Comber
Simplex
• Attenuation- drafting the sliver into roving
• Twisting the drafted strand
• Winding the twisted roving on a bobbin
Machines
• Zinser/Toyoda/Marzoli/LMW
Simplex
Ring Frame
• To draft the roving until the required fineness is
achieved
• To impart strength to the fiber, by inserting twist
• To wind up the twisted strand (yarn) in a form
suitable for storage,
• Transportation and further processing.
