Have you ever
.
heard of
..
What do you
understand
it
to mean? Page 3
Try and GUESS !!!!!
what could
‘Lay
Vocation’
mean???
Page 4
The Goenkar boys
and the Jewish
boys
Page 5
Guess
what!
I too just
heard about it!!!
Page 6
The
Lay
Vocation
was spoken of
already in the
documents
of Vatican II
Page 7
Sadly the idea of the lay
vocation got somewhat
buried under all
the new ideas
that were
brought out
by Vatican II

The Sangam Proposal: Exploring New Frontiers in Faith Formation in Asia
WHOM
IS
CHRIST
SPEAKING? Page 11
.
Page 12
What do we
understand
by the word
‘VOCATION’?
Page 13
So vocation is
supposed to be
something
Page 14
If LAY PEOPLE
want to be
SPECIAL
what can they
do?
Page 15
Secular
Institutes.
Again
SOMETHING SPECIAL
Page 16
So lately to give
‘something’ to the
lay person we are
allowed to
distribute
communion, say
the prayers at
funerals or
graveyards etc. Page 17
Now they are also
talking of lay
deacons or rather
married deacons –
already happening
in South America
and also Mumbai.
‘Vocations’ are less
nowadays. Page 18
Archbishop Ivan
Dias ordains the
first ever
married men as
deacons in
Mumbai in 2006
Page 19
Again the
stress is
On being
Page 20
And one more thing: the
emphasis is on being
something special
IN THE CHURCH
Page 21
OKAY.
here are
two THINGS
THAT MIGHT
SURPRISE YOU:
Page 22

Page 23

Page 25
Lay people, whose particular vocation
places them in the midst of the world
and in charge of the most varied
temporal tasks, must for this very
reason exercise a very special
form
of evangelisation....
Page 26
We are ALL called to serve Christ.
Go out to the whole world.....
Be ye perfect as your heavenly
father is perfect
I say to you.....
You are the salt of the earth
Page 27
To be called to
serve
Is this not something
special?
Page 28
It may not put me in the
limelight
BUT
It isn’t it
something special?
Page 29
Now for the second point
CHURCH
Page 31
Page 32
You know Christ says, you are the
salt of the earth... You have to be
the leaven... ?
Page 33
As Pope Paul VI tells us:
we have to work in the vast and complicated world of
• POLITICS
• SOCIETY AND ECONOMICS
• CULTURE,
• THE SCIENCES
• THE ARTS
• INTERNATIONAL LIFE
• THE MASS MEDIA
Page 34
It also includes other realities which are
open to evangelisation:
• HUMAN LOVE,
• THE FAMILY,
• THE EDUCATION OF
CHILDREN AND
ADOLESCENTS
• PROFESSIONAL WORK
• SUFFERING.
Page 35
As Pope Paul VI tells us:
Page 36
What do you
think this
means?
Page 37
Paul VI says in 1975 in Evangelisation in the
Modern World 70
Page 38
How EASY
or DIFFICULT
is this?
Page 39
Easy or difficult,
Page 40
Page 41
So NOW what is your answer going to
be when you are asked
‘Do you have a vocation’ ?
Page 42
What can I be the salt of the earth?
How can i be a witness – in my office,
factory, place of work, classroom, home...?
How can I live up to my vocation as a lay
person?
