Simple Past Tense
Simple Tense?

We use past simple tense when we talk

about completed actions in the past

she ate pizza last night

For Example

I washed my car yesterday

yesterday
last night
a month ago

 Kinds of Verbs
Kata kerja yang digunakan dalam
“simple past tense” adalah kata kerja ke-
dua (Verb 2).
Jenis-jenis kata kerja yang digunakan
dalam “simple past tense” ada 2, yaitu :
• Regular verbs (Kata kerja beraturan)
• Irregular verbs (Kata kerja tidak beraturan)

Jika kata akhiran kata kerja adalah huruf “y” yang
didahului oleh huruf vokal (a,i,u,e,o), maka
ditambahkan akhiran -ed

Jika akhiran kata kerja adalah huruf “y” yang

didahului oleh huruf konsonan, maka hilangkan
huruf y dan ganti menjadi i dan tambahkan
akhiran -ed

 Formula of Simple Past Tense
• For Positive Sentences Use
Subject Verb 2 Complement

Example :
1. Tom visited us last week.
2. I ran in the competition yesterday.

• For Negative Sentences Use

Did not /
Subject Verb 1 Complement
Didn’t

Example :
1. Tom didn’t visit us last week.
2. I didn’t run in the competition yesterday.
• For Yes/No Question Sentences Use

Did Subject Verb 1 Complement

Example :
1. Did Tom visit you last week ? Yes, Tom did or No, Tom
didn’t

• For Informative Questions Sentences Use

Bagaimana jika pada simple past tense terdapat
kata Non Verb????

Maka gunakanlah to be yaitu “was” dan “were”

Was untuk subjek (I, She, He, It)
Were untuk subjek (You, We, They)

• For Negative Sentences Use

Example :
