1.) Area 51 is located in the
southern portion of Nevada
in the western United States,
83 miles (134 km) north-
northwest of Las Vegas.
Situated at its center, on the
southern shore of Groom
Lake, is a large military
airfield. The site was acquired
by the United States Air Force
in 1955, primarily for the
flight testing of the Lockheed
U-2 aircraft. The area around

 THE SKYLAB INCIDENT
•Skylab was U.S.A’s first and only space station
which operated from 1973 to 1979.

•Some rookie astronauts aboard Skylab in 1974 had

accidently photographed images of the ultra high
security Area-51.

•They discovered pictures of Groom Lake and the

panic caused by this traveled as high as the CIA
Director, William Colby.

•On April 19th, 1974, Colby sent a memo to undisclosed colleagues with top security
clearance stating, “The issue arises from the fact that the recent Skylab mission
inadvertently photographed the airfield at Groom Lake. There were specific
instructions not to do this,” the memo stated and Groom 'was the only location
which had such an instruction.'
 LOCKHEED U2- “THE DRAGONLADY”
The Lockheed U-2, nicknamed "Dragon
Lady", is an American single-jet engine, ultra-
high altitude reconnaissance aircraft
operated by the United States Air Force
(USAF) and previously flown by the Central
Intelligence Agency (CIA). It provides day
and night, high-altitude (70,000 feet;
21,000 m), all-weather intelligence
gathering. This plane was cutting edge
technology of it’s time ,undetectable to
USSR’s radar and due to its high altitude was
very difficult to intercept and shot down.

Such ingenious piece of technology was developed in high-level secrecy at area 51.
It was about decades after when CIA declassified the plane’s internal history ,
acknowledging AREA-51 as the testing site .

LOCKHEED A-12 OR “PROJECT OXCART”
Lockheed A-12 was a subsonic reconnaissance
aircraft.

* A-12 was produced from 1962 to 1964 and

flew from 1963 to 1968,it was used in
locating missile sites over Vietnam.

* Its testing and development was done at

Area 51,which was found when CIA
declassified its files in 2013.

* These files revealed that a crash took place

during testing of A-12 And from these files
aerospace historian Peter Merlin was able to
locate the true site of crash.

 THE ROSWELL U.F.O CRASH INCIDENT
•In mid-1947, a United States Army
Air Forces balloon crashed at a ranch
near
Roswell , New Mexico.

•Initial stand of USA government

was that it was a weather balloon
crash .But the witnesses of crash
claimed that they saw two “child-like
disfigured bodies”.
•The crash consisted of tin foil looking debris which had shiny appearance and possesed
ultra strength, as described by William Brazel whose ranch was the crash site. It’s debris was
then collected by Roswell Air Force and sent to a confidential place for testing.

•In 1994 U.S Air force admitted that weather balloon was a cover up, that debris actually
belonged to “PROJECT MORGUL” and this balloon was to be used to detect the location of
Soviet bomb tests. These changing statements have caused more suspicions among
Ufologists regarding this crash incident.

•This bay is located at southeastern end of Cuba.

•The United States assumed control over the southern portion of Guantánamo Bay under
the 1903 Lease agreement.

•U.S. leased it for use as a coaling station and naval base, also it was temporarily used as a
refugee camp for Haitian and Cuban refugees in 1991 and 1994.
GUANTANAMO BAY DETENTION CAMP
•After 9/11 attack at World trade center and Pentagon
“War against Terror” was declared by President George W.
Bush.

•Since 2002, the naval base has contained a military prison,

the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, for unlawful
combatants captured in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other places.

•Since its inception about 779 have been brought to

detention camp, most were either convicted or suspected
terrorists.
 CONDITION OF PRISIONERS
• They are not provided with adequate legal counsel, this makes there vindication a lengthy process
if they are innocent.

• Based on interviews & confession of released Guantanamo prisoners, prison authorities tortured
them through various methods mentally & physically like :
a.) Interrogations prolonging 12 hours, and throughout interviews they were shackled in stressful
Positions.

b.) They were deprived of sleep and exposed to loud music for hours in a small room which caused
immense headaches according to the detainees.

c.) The prisoners who opposed the authorities by hunger strikes were forcefully fed through pipes
inserted via nose to stomach and all these would be done without anesthesia.

d.) They are tortured through other methods like water-boarding, threatening by dogs etc.
 CRITICISM
The cost of running it is very much high. It is
claimed by the opposition that government
want to keep this open for their political
gain.

•The violation of human rights and not providing prisoners adequate legal counsel have
raised voices of opposition by human right activists and many NGOs.

•Many inmates have committed suicide or tried to, since Guantanamo’s beginning. This
is blamed on hostile environment and torture committed by prison authorities.

•111 of 532 prisoners released by the Republican administration of President George W.

Bush are confirmed to have returned to the battlefield, thus Guantanamo prison failed its
purpose in many cases.
 PROTESTS

Guantanamo has faced constant opposition from human right activists and NGOs
like Amnesty International, due to the brutal treatment of prisoners their.
Obama announced in 2009 that he plans on
closing Guantanamo detention camp

But after facing strong opposition by congress he failed to do so...
