HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. - Ezio Mazzola 731711 43
Synchronization over packets: 1588V2
1. At time t1, the master clock sends the SYN message
that carriers the t1 information. The master clock
directly inserts the value of time t1 into the SYN
message through the MAC layer to notify the slave
clock
2. At time t2, the slave clock receives the SYN message
3. At time t3, the slave clock sends the REQ message
4. At time t5, the master clock sends the RESP
message that carriers the t4 information

Offset and Delay exist on a network:

 Offset: difference between the time of the master
clock and the time of the slave clock
 Delay: Caused by network transmission
t2 – t1 = Delay – Offset
t4 – t3 = Delay + Offset

(t4 - t3 ) – (t2 – t1)

Offset =
2 But delays are not fixed
(t4 - t3 ) + (t2 – t1) over a microwave link
Delay =

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. - Ezio Mazzola 731711 47

Latency Reduction: Packet Fragmentation
7 MHz QPSK High Priority (64 bytes) Latency
 Queues contains Fragments
 All fragments have the same length (128 bytes)
 Fragmentation is enabled by default for CS6 to BE,
but not applies to CS7
 Weights of WRR guarantees Bandwidth share
among all WRR queues

Plus

Long low-priority packets could generate latency variation on high priority ones
Huawei implements packet fragmentation over the radio channel  No delay
increase for short high priority packets (Voice and IEEE 1588-2008)

ADAPTIVE MODULATION EXAMPLES
1. Traffic Definition CIR and PIR
2. Traffic Dimensioning
3. Link Definition and Comparison

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. - Ezio Mazzola 731711 96

1st Step: Traffic Definition CIR and PIR

CIR (Committed Information Rate) = part of traffic in Mbps we need to transmit any time

PIR (Peak Information Rate) = Value of Peak capacity that service may request some time
There will be different types of traffic and the “encapsulation” could be a mix between TDM and Packet. CIR and PIR are
applied for Packet encapsulation. TDM classification is CIR=PIR
PIR has been taken for total traffic.

Services Number of - CIR [Mbps] PIR [Mbps] VOICE DATA (internet) DATA
E1 2 4 4 (email)
Data 1 1 70
10Mbps
Data 1 0,5 10
4Mbps PIR
TOTAL 5,5 84 1Mbps 0.5Mbps
CIR
CIR CIR
You DO NOT have to make the PIR
planning using the Total Traffic
value otherwise network will be 70Mbps
over dimensioned. PIR
Value in Mbps are only indicative

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. - Ezio Mazzola 731711 97

2nd Step: Define the traffic for specified availability
Define the amount of traffic we want to transmit with a specified value of availability (i.e.: 99.999%)
It will be given by:
Note: The approach reported in the formula is a
conservative approach. In line of principle is
mandatory only to grant the CIR (x=0)

Assuming
x = 10% the value will be:
w/ AM x=10% VOICE DATA (internet) DATA
Services Number of - w/o AM [Mbps] CIR [Mbps] PIR [Mbps] (email)
Traffic
E1 2 4 4 4
Model 10Mbps
Data 1 70 1 7 4Mbps
4Mbps 1Mbps PIR
Data 1 10 0,5 1 CIR 0.5Mbps
PIR CIR
TOTAL 84 13,5 CIR
70Mbps Traffic Traffic
Now you have considered statistical Model
PIR Model
multiplexing and get a benefit from
original 84Mbps to 13.5 Mbps 7 Mbps 1 Mbps

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. - Ezio Mazzola 731711 98

3rd Step: Define link and relevant modulation level
Assuming that we need to transport 13,5 Mbps for 99.999% of the time. Using SMARTBUDGET we can compute the relevant
link parameter:
w/ AM x=10%
 Frequency 18 GHz Services Number of - CIR [Mbps] PIR [Mbps] w/o AM [Mbps] CIR [Mbps] PIR [Mbps]
 Rain Zone N E1 2 4 4 4 4 4
 Link Distance 5km Data 1 1 70 70 1 7
Data 1 0,5 10 10 0,5 1

 More than 40 countries have opened the E-band many will follow soon
 Typically low cost license fee (less than 30% of traditional frequency or free of charge)
 Most common regulation is the conventional link-by-link coordination made under administration’s
responsibility
 In some countries (US, UK, Australia,…) the E-band is regulated with a “light-licensing” regime: self-
coordinated, first-come-first-served basis with a link register maintained by the spectrum Authority
