Electro-Coagulation is the process of destabilizing suspended,
emulsified or dissolved contaminants in an aqueous medium by
inducing an electrical current in to the medium.

The electrical current provides the electromotive force to drive

the chemical reactions.

Electro- When reactions are driven or forced, the compounds will

approach the most stable state.
Coagulation
The state of stability produces a solid that is either less colloidal
and less emulsified than the compound at equilibrium values.

As this occurs the contaminants form hydrophobic entities that

precipitates and can easily be removed by a number of
secondary separation techniques.

Advantages of Electro-Coagulation
• EC requires simple equipment and is easy to operate with sufficient operational latitude to handle most problems
encountered on running.
• Wastewater treated by EC gives palatable, clear, colorless and odorless water.
• Sludge formed by EC tends to be readily settable and easy to de-water, compared to conventional alum or ferric
hydroxide sludges, because the mainly metallic oxides/hydroxides have no residual charge.
• Flocs formed by EC are similar to chemical floc, except that EC floc tends to be much larger, contains less bound
water, is acid-resistant and more stable, and therefore, can be separated faster by filtration
• The EC process has the advantage of removing the smallest colloidal particles, because the applied electric field
neutralises any residual charge, thereby facilitating the coagulation.[9]
• The EC process generally avoids excessive use of chemicals and so there is reduced requirement to neutralize
excess chemicals and less possibility of secondary pollution caused by chemical substances added at high
concentration as when chemical coagulation of wastewater is used.
• The gas bubbles produced during electrolysis can conveniently carry the pollutant components to the top of the
solution where it can be more easily concentrated, collected and removed by a motorised skimmer.
• The electrolytic processes in the EC cell are controlled electrically and with no moving parts, thus requiring less
maintenance.
• The activated sludge process is a type
of wastewater treatment process for
treating sewage or industrial
wastewaters using aeration and a
biological floc composed of bacteria
and protozoa.
• The general arrangement of an activated sludge THE
process for removing carbonaceous pollution
includes the following items: An aeration tank ACTIAVTED
where air (or oxygen) is injected in the mixed
liquor. This is followed by a settling tank (usually SLUDGE
referred to as "final clarifier" or "secondary
settling tank") to allow the biological flocs (the
sludge blanket) to settle, thus separating the
biological sludge from the clear treated water.
The overall goal of the activated-
sludge process is to remove
substances that have a demand for
oxygen from the system. This is
accomplished by the metabolic
reactions (synthesis-respiration and
nitrification) of the microorganisms,
the separation and settling of
activated sludge solids to create an
acceptable quality of secondary
wastewater effluent, and the
collection and recycling of
microorganisms back into the system
or removal of excess microorganisms
from the system. This is achieved by
the Efficient design of the Secondary
clarifier and Sludge recyclation
process.
Removes hydrocarbons and BOD/COD in contaminated water
through an attached growth biological treatment technology.

•Uses oxygen transfer with a large protected biofilm attachment

area to achieve high removal rates.

•Increases the efficiency of the biological treatment process by

Fluidized Bed increasing the amount of surface area.

•Capable of treating a variety of flow rates and contaminants.

Bio-Reactor •Minimal maintenance compared to other biological
treatment systems.

•The FBBR Media Pac incorporates high surface area and

large void spaces that are aggressively sloughed to eliminate
biofilm growth and fouling.

Ultra filtration and
Re-cycling Plant
• Ultra filtration system is an effective pre
treatment for Reverse Osmosis Re-cycling plant
and Nano Filtration Plant.
• Ultra filtration comprises of Hydrophilic PVC
Hollow Membranes. Hydrostatic pressure is used
to force water through a semi-permeable
membraneThis pore size is 0.01 to 0.1 microns
Turbidity less than 0.10NTU.

Consistent output water Quality.

Bacteria removal up to 99.99%.

Benefits of Increases the life of Nano and RO membranes.
Ultra Chlorine tolerance up to 200mg/L.
Filtration SDI less than 2.
System
pH range from 3 to 12.

Easily back washable.

Low operating Cost.

Reverse Osmosis
System
• Treated effluent from the Ultra filtration will
be feed to ROI feed tank. This will pass
through some micron filtered then fed to
reverse osmosis membranes stage 1 by
applying high pressure by HP Pump. The
Products from the Reverse Osmosis Stage
will feed to Degasification tower for removal
of carbon dioxide and Odor. After
Degasificatication the product water fed to
process house for recycling
Advantages of Reverse Osmosis Disadvantage of Reverse Osmosis
Systems Systems
• High salt rejection rate • Pre treatment is always required
• Excellent rejection of • Low chemical compatibility
microorganism and organic
compound
• Energy requirement is low
NANO Filtration
Nanofiltration (NF) is a relatively recent membrane
filtration process used most often with low total
dissolved solids water such as surface water and
fresh groundwater, with the purpose of softening
(polyvalent cation removal) and removal of disinfection
by-product precursors such as natural organic matter
and synthetic organic matter
Advantages of Nano filtration
Effective way of softening hard water
No chemical is used
Viruses, organic matters and valence ions are removed from water

Disadvantages of Nano filtration

It is very cost
Cost of maintenance is very High
