Abstract
 The main gist of this project is to give exact view
by Bridging the various sources of energy
available to mankind.In today’s modernized
world travelling is very essential for human beings
and to do this travelling should be done in
minimum possible way and in jiffy. This project
details about the electric bike which runs on the
battery there by providing voltage to the
motor. This project compromises with design and
fabrication of electric bike, in short form as ebike,
Which makes electrical energy as a primary
source.the electrical power which is used to run
the bike can give better fuel economy
compared to Conventional vehicles, better
performance and causes less pollution..
POLLUTION
Petrol fumes choke our
Atmosphere everyday and brings
new evidence that our appetite for
oil is Poisioning the planet. If the
state of Affairs is also so bad,so
imagine the kind of world future
generations will Inherrit.

 The worst part is we running out of

the Oil, We Feel this every time the
price of oil escalates, every time
we have to pay more even for a
litre of petrol. And there is no
stopping – It is only going to worse
SOLUTION
There is a solution for this
ELECTRIC VEHICLES – They run on batteries,,so There is zero
expenditure on petrol and better still there is no air pollution.

 Aside from Being light in your pocket,,

And light in your conscience, the no-
petrol vehicle is Easy to use, light weight
and maintenance free, Providing stress
free experience..
 The advantages are obvious and the
potential is limited Only by your
imagination.Clean,green and healthy.
What is an Electric bike?
 Fundamentally an ebike is Just a regular bicycle with
an electric motor to provide additional assistance..You
can pedal normally and just use the motor to help out
on hills and headwinds, or use the motor all the time
just to make riding easier. The experience is entirely
different from riding say a gas scooter or
motorbike.here the electric assistance is perfectly
smooth and silent, and it compliments rather than
supplants human power
 Electric bikes are new and promising alternative form of Urban
transportation..They Provide all the Advantages of the regular ebike, such
as Zero emissions and freedom from gridlock, while eliminating one of the
bicycle serious drawbacks, Lack of power. In most situations in the city,
riding the electric bike is faster and cheaper than either car or a public
transit
How does it work ?
 In electric bikes, we use a DC
motor to obtain the motions,by
consuming the electrical
energy stored in the Batteries.
 DC motors are classified into
types based on Load and
speed variations for example
BLDC motor, hub motor, etc,.
 When the motor is running, we
use a controller and hand
operated accelerator to
control the speed of the motor
Batteries in Electric bikes:
 Electric bikes use one of three types of batteries:
1. Lead acid (SLA)
2. Nickel metal hydride (NiMH)
3. Lithium ion ( Li-ion)

 A typical battery in a electric bike will have

approximately 250w to 1000w Power
 The three types of batteries are explained as follows
based on usage and life cycles and Physical properties.
Types of batteries:
1. Lead acid (SLA) battery:
 These life span is at least 300 cycles and It needs to be
replaced.
 Advantage is least expensive and requires huge
maintenance.
2. Nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery:
 NiMH battery will last about 500 full charge cycles
before it needs to be replaced
 These are much lighter weight and better Overall
lifetime
3. Lithium ion (Li-ion) battery:
 These are in small size and lighter weight.
 The Individual cells are arranged into required battery
Advantages:
 They are non–polluting vehicles
 It consumes non-exhaustable fuel and easily
available source
 Cost of transportation is low
 Does not required license and registration (for
below 30kmph In india)
 Zero emissions, smooth and silent
 Easy to use and requires less maintenance
 Low manufacturing cost and simple in
construction
Disadvantages:
There are negligible Disadvantages of electric bikes..
Few of them are the following :
 Low speeds
 Not possible for travel to long distances
 Instant charging is not possible
 Can‘t carry load more than 200kgs
Steps in Project Completion
1. Concept and Research
2. Design and development
3. Prototype testing
4. Fabrication
5. Testing and modifications
