Yoga : A Way To Live Life.
Meaning Of Yoga :
Introduction.

The word, yoga, comes from the

Sanskrit word “Yuj”, which means
“union”, “to join” and "samadhi" or
"concentration.“
Yoga is a physical, mental and
spiritual practice that originated in
ancient India.
 Yoga is a communion of the human soul
with the Supreme Soul.
 Itis a spiritual system with a physical
component.
 Yoga helps to overcome lust, anger and
ego and live a virtuous life.
Traditional Yoga .
• According to the ancient view, the
success of Yoga is evidenced by the
degree to which one experiences
realization of the eternal Self, which is
beyond the physical body, its maladies,
and its inevitable demise.
. The word “Yoga” referred to
the whole, not merely one part, which is
the postures, or Asanas.
 IndianYoga, in its essence a special action or
formulation of certain great powers of Nature, itself
specialized, divided and variously formulated, is
potentially one of these dynamic elements of future life
of humanity. The main goal of traditional yoga is to
achieve moksha- liberation, enlightenment, freedom
from reincarnation and conscious recognition of
one's own divinity.
TYPES OF YOGA .
 There are basically five paths which all lead to the same
goal, the attainment of the ultimate reality. These paths
are:

 Rajayoga : The Royal Yoga Path
 Jnanayoga : The Yoga Of Knowledge
 Bhaktiyoga : The Bhakti Of Devotion
 Karmayoga : The Yoga Of Action
ELEMENTS OF YOGA FROM
PATANJALI YOGA SUTRA.
The elements are –

•Yama -
•Niyama
•Asana

ALL LIFE IS YOGA
 Ifwe can summarize the crux of the Gita’s teaching, it is in
the memorable phrase: “All life is yoga.” Whatever one’s
circumstances, actions, station in life, and relationships, the
essential aspect is to constantly see and remember the
Divine at all times.
At Primary Level – Shri Aurovindo has given three elements
to practice :
 Aspiration
 Surrender
 Rejection
If these three things are followed then the individual gets
strength day by day and becomes powerful.
YOGA : A NEW BIRTH

 All yoga is in its nature a new birth.

 No yoga can be successfully undertaken and
followed unless there is a strong awakening to the
necessity of that larger spiritual existence.
 TheYoga is not to be effected by a divided will or
by a small portion of the energy or by a hesitating
mind.
AIM OF YOGA

Its main goals are:

Physical Health
Mental Health
Spiritual Health
Self-Realisation or realisation of the
Divine.
These goals are attained by:
Love and help for all living beings
Respect for life, protection of nature and the
environment
A peaceful state of mind
Full vegetarian diet
Pure thoughts and positive lifestyle
Physical, mental and spiritual practices
Respect for all nations, cultures and religions.
CONCLUSION
 The purpose of Yoga is to create harmony in the physical,
vital, mental, psychological and spiritual aspects of the
human being.
 Yoga is not mere practice for an hour or two in a day but it
is the most scientific way of living, all the twenty-four
hours of the day.
 The continuous practice of Yoga leads us to Liberation.
