In 1968 Brian May
and Tim
Staffell, students
at the Imperial College,
decided to form a band.
Announcing that the school
needed a
Drummer, Roger Taylor, a
medical student,took the post.
They call the
group Smile,
And their
record company
Mercury
Records recorded
in the
Trident Studios
in 1969.
Tim was studying at the Ealing
College of Art where he met
Frederick Bulsara (or Farrock Mommi
Balsara) inviting him to listen to
the band.
In 1970 ‘Smile’ was disbanded, Tim
started a new group called Humpy
Bong and Freddie left his band
"Wreckage" and got together with
Brian and Roger.
Freddie changed his name to Mercury;
they also changed the name of the
band to Queen, they needed a bass
player and John Deacon came. In
1973, Trident and EMI signed an
exclusive contract with Queen, and
in July of that same year they
composed their first album 'Queen. "
'Queen II' appeared in March 1974
and in April the band made its first
tour of the USA.
While working on their
third album, they met Roy Thomas
Baker who helped on
'Sheer Heart Attack.
" In January 1975,
Queen made their first
solo tour of the USA, the
tickets were sold out. In April they
visited Japan for the first time,
And were acclaimed by their fans.
Queen began to work on their
new album in June,
when they decided to do “Bohemian
Rhapsody”.The whole world
said that this song wasn’t
going to be a success,
because it lasted
longer than 5 minutes.
But Freddie gave a single copy
To his DJ friend in London Kenny
Everett, asking him to
put it on the radio.
To their surprise the song became
a resounding success,
Setting up Queen as the
band of the era.
The single remained at No.
1 for nine weeks. The album
'A Night At The Opera'
Was released in November 1975 and
was a tremendous success, winning
Them their
first Platinum disc.
"A Day At
The´Races” in
December 1976,was
in high demand.
That Christmas' We Will Rock You ’was overthrown
from the top of the French charts after 12 weeks
by..... "We Are The Champions."

In July they began work on their new album. The


publicity for the new single 'Bicycle Race’ was
etched with 15 completely naked girls on a racing
bike.
In November,'Jazz’ was their seventh album.
"Live Killers’ was the new live album,, which was
performed in June 1979. Queen was invited to
write the music for the film "Flash Gordon".
In 1980, the band performed their new album 'The
Game' (the first album where they used
synthesizers). They went 5-platinum in Canada
alone.
The album 'Hot Space', it made May 21, 1982 after
the band took an extensive tour. In December
1982, Queen appear in the Guinness Book of
Records as the highest paid British band
In January 1983, Freddie gets to work on his solo
album, and Roger begins his second album. Brian
in the company of Edward Van Halen, Alan Gretzer,
Phil Chen and Fred Mandel perform the mini album
"Star Fleet Project."
The band returns to the studio in August 1983 to
begin work on their next album, working at the
Record Plant in Los Angeles - The first time they
recorded in America.
"Radio Ga Ga” This single became a resounding
success around the world going almost to the
top in 19 countries.

1985 was the year of 'Rock In Rio. " It was


the largest rock festival in the world and
Queen participated in it. Queen was the only
band that won the rights to record the concert
on video.
Freddie brings out his new solo album 'Mr Bad
Guy', in April 1985. Queen decides to make the
soundtrack for the movie 'Highlander'. In March
1986, John forms a new band called 'The
Immortals. " On June 2, Queen performs their new
album, the soundtrack for the movie Highlander,
entitled 'A Kind Of Magic. " The album becomes
number one in the English charts. In December
they perform their second live album "Live
Magic." Freddie meets the soprano Montserrat
Caballé in March 1986, she is invited to record
an album with him. In May 1987 Freddie and
Montserrat appear at the festival Ibiza 92'. They
perform the song 'Barcelona'.
In August 1987, Roger formed a new group called
The Cross. The single 'Barcelona' was recorded in
Spain in September 1987 and more than 10,000
copies were sold in just 3 hours. The Spanish
Olympic Committee adopted the song as the theme
for the Olympic Games in that city in 1992. In
November the trilogy of his life appears called
'The Magic Years. "
Queen makes their sixteenth album on May 22, 1989
called 'The Miracle. " It enters the European and
English charts getting to the top.
In November 1990, Queen signed the
biggest contract in the history of
music with Disney Hollywood Records.
In 1991, the band performed their
first single which lasted six and a
half minutes. "Innuendo." The album
of the same name was made on
February 4 reaching No 1 in the
Greatest Hits II was recorded in
October 1991 and included 17 songs.
On November 23, 1991 Freddie
announced to the world that he had
AIDS.He died in his house saying
goodbye to his friends and
relatives. The world was paralyzed.
After four years of work, November
6, 1995 the new album from Queen
appears throughout the world,'Made
In Heaven. ” Album number 20 in
their career. Launched in April of
91 'and completed by the other
members with recordings that Freddie
had made before his death.
